Manco engine swap

I mess with that 12hp in the duece, the more I'm looking at just a full replacement engine. So need ppl advise. Just doing a little research. Found can get around same HP engine for around $450.00. And a 22 HP predator for $700.00.
I noticed he had to put adjustments on the engine alinement when this engine was put in. Looks like he made a mounting plate to mount this one. Also he put washers between the plate and engine it self. (Guessing to match up the belt and clutch).
What do I really need to look for to make the swap go easy as possible? What measurements should I pay attention to as far as mounting and hooking up clutch? For both the buggy and new engine? Drive shaft length? Mounting hole locations? Shaft height from bottom? Carb setup and location?

the 22 hp forget it, unless you are going to be hauling a big trailer behind you.

Curious.. why you say that? I'm learning about these type of engines.
