Default What's the best hill climbing set-up

Hay guys. Got a couple of these gy6 buggies.. Carbide Fox and a Tomberlin 150r Baja. We ride in creeks and bottoms. Trying to upgrade the trans to accommodate for the severe loss of power when climbing. I've ordered a 26mm carb&intake, 2000rpm clutch spring set, clutch with wider pads,9gram rollers and a 39 tooth torque sprocket. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

a 45t sprocket would be the best for the sprocket, I found a 45t and 42t, I went with the 42 since it matches perfectly with my disk brake. I guess next would be a A12 or A13 cam, I am assuming you already changed the intake and exhaust right?

Thanks. The 39 tooth torque sprocket is the largest I could find.

Stock cam is a 04-04. I have a 05-09. Would that increase low end torque?

45t is about 9 5/16" dia so check your clearance.

have no idea what 04-04 or 05-09 mean I usually go by series A9- A14 09 for more speed and towards A14 for more torque...A12 has about 27mm on the intake lift... for the sprocket I got a 42T of ebay just type in "42 Tooth Rear Sprocket (#530), 58mm center hole diameter" there are 35, 39, 42,45 and others just make sure u have a 530 size chain and your center home is 58mm...

The Yerf-Dog will not take a sprocket larger than 39t without moving the axle or engine. Even with the 39t sprocket, you will need to grind down an unused boss on the engine case for clearance. I ran the 13t drive sprocket with 39t axle sprocket on mine. The Yerf-Dog already has high ratio gears in the final transmission, so that helps it along too.

I ran the A12 cam with a Hammerhead exhaust and UNI cold air intake. I did not do any cylinder, crank or head work, but that will also yield more grunt.

Ignition upgrades will let it spin freer at high RPM, but did nothing for my low end.

Tires make a big difference. I ran 22X8-10 tires on 10x8 rims up front and 22x11-8 tires on 8x10 rims in the rear. running tall tires up front allows the front to roll over things instead of hang on them. Shorter rims in back allow you to air down more without rim damage which gives you better traction than a tire with less sidewall.
