tried a couple different plugs also lol ill check the grounds...it seems to be a dc cdi with 2 wires on the 2 pin plug....i have a good stator on 125cc ac fired kart...will that stator work on this?

Edit...swapped stators and cdi....it now fires right up but then dies almost immediately...

Also voltage regulator is disconnected cause not sure if the original will work with the new system.

it sat for 2 or 3 years.....with the gas cap off...seats are rotted, master cylinder tank is rotted. i changed carb and it seem to run good now (when i said it would start then die i was spraying carb cleaner in the carb and usually i can keep a motor running with short burst of carb cleaner)

Now lights etc still work even with key off...are they sposed to go off with key? Something is constantly clicking under the dash as long as battery is hooked up (sounds like the flasher) blinkers work but....all 4 flash regardless if blinker is in left or right position.

pretty sure there is a relay under the dash , it sounds stuck. a new one can be had at your local auto parts store. just take the old one out and match the #'s up

Ok got valves adjusted....It now cranks with just a bump of the key and idles like a top now but its still got a nasty sputter/backfire if you punch it and/or get any where near half to full throttle.

Have tried a couple different known good carbs. Also when sittin on blocks theres no back fire till almost WOT...Seems like its outa time.

Are you running the stock airbox? I ask because the jetting is pretty touchy when running an after market air cleaner.

Backfire turned out to be spark plug wire loose at the plug...But stock airbox has been taken off and its got nothing but a piece of radiator hose turned down atm till i can get a uni filter etc. Plug was black last night after a few rounds around the house.

New problem tho is its puking oil out of the air exit in the shroud and if you take the dipstick out right after you shut it off it just blows oil everywhere

Sounds like your crank case vent is blocked, it needs to vent. It was probably originally routed through the stock airbox. Someone probably blocked it off when they removed the airbox.

With no air cleaner you probably wont get it running right, get an air cleaner on it and jet it accordingly.

Yep it was....had a nice dirt dobber nest in the end that used to go to the airbox. What size jet would be about right for it with some sorta uni style filter? Also the muffler is completely hollow....dont know if its an aftermarket exhaust or not.

Another thing...Does the parking brake work without the hydraulics? brake reservoir is rotted off so no brakes till i get a master cylinder but was wondering if the parking brake works off the hydraulics or not.

If I remember correctly my hammerhead had a cable operated parking brake, so it should work as long as the caliper isn't frozen.

A lot of people hollow out the exhaust to get better flow, another reason to jet it properly.

Too many variables for me to be able to tell you what jet size to use. I would go up till it runs good and gets good color on the plug.

P.S You used the term ''Dirt Dobber'' instead of wasp, where are you from? When I say ''Mud Dobber'' people look at me like I'm crazy...lol

I have no clue what size jets are in it stock and my caliper must be bad cause it dont squeeze when i pull the handle and im from florida. Ive always know them as dirt dobbers lol

Anyone know where i can get the lil cylinder thing that goes on the the end of the reverse cable? Cable and that piece is gone

You will need to take the bowl off the carb and see what jets it has in it, then go up from there.

I'm in west palm beach, where you at?

Damn Chinese jets..lol I've had some mystery jets before too.

This is gonna sound redkneck ish but I've used a small index of drill bits to size jets before. Use the bits to figure out what size your main jet is then go up from there.

Find the drill bit that fits in your current main jet, take it with you to a bike shop that has a jet selection. Find the jet that matches what you have and go up from there.

It would be a good idea to take your main jet with you to make sure you get the right style jet, there are a few different styles.

Lol nothing wrong with some redneck ingenuity except i dont think i got any bits that small so ill have to get some. Ive also notice it sounds like its knocking but not sure if thats what it is or not...if it is what the best way to go about resolving it...if im gonna tear in to it id like to go ahead and get more performance out of it when i put it back together.

If it has a rod knock, I personally would just look for another motor. New or used they're pretty cheap.

Ive got a good running 125 and another 150 (unknown condition) where should i start as far as performance parts go? Can i just build off the 125 case since its in good running condition?

Question 2...Finally got it runnig smooth as butter from idle to wot...But ive been running it without any sorta filter..just open carb (got a uni ordered) but the jetting is wierd.. (i know i cant get it right till i get a filter) The more free flowing the bigger the jets right? Well it seems this one likes smaller jets even with open intake...anything over 107 main and it just bogs..pilot is 35 i think.

Question 2...where can i get the lil cylinder thing that goes on the reverse box? I gotta get a cable but the cables dont come with that piece and im not buying a whole new reverse assembly just for one part.

in terms of jetting your carb whats ur elevation ? location? and what is weather currently right now. As the tunning of these carbs can be tricky when first starting out. As for as the yerf dog engine its probally a howit engine, and in terms of big valve head that I know of the taida has the biggest valves in there heads, there will be some knock offs that have the over sized valves also.

All early GY6 engines including the howlett started as 125cc engines. When they first upgraded them to 150cc engines they used the same 125 head which had smaller valves. It wasn't until late 2006 that howlett and others started using the bigger valve heads.

I know what you mean about the jetting acting weird with no filter. I had the same exact situation, never got it jetted right till I put the filter on.

My thinking was just like yours, I assumed more air meant a bigger jet, but it just wouldn't run right till I got the filter on.

ok ive got 2 howits one just got today from work and the other from a spiderbox...no clue on what year it is but it has equal length a-arms...3rd gen???

Ive got a UNI ordered but it dont really matter now cause it lost all compression yesterday and died I think what i thought was knockin was actually piston slap? but ive got the 125 that runs good and if the jug will fit ill swap the spiderbox stuff over...motor is sposed to run but the clutch cover was off and the belt was gone so i think thats why they took it off plus motor mount was broke off the swing arm.
