suspension system.
What do you think of this?...the differential has a shock mount. I'm going to use that to put a heavy shock on board to replace the really really crappy ones. Anyone see an issue??

Don't look good to me , three mounting points for the swing arm versus four . And would your center location mount be stout enough to bear the weight and stress involved , doubt it , not without a lot of reinforcement .

I thought the same thing on the center, it's 1/4 inch steel. Which I could weld some support to hold it fast. When you said 3 points on swing arms, instead of 4, what did you mean?

Nevermind I understand. Hmm....

The two mounts/pivots of the swingarm , and the two upper shock mounts makes four , as opposed to one shock mount in the center which would make for more twisting forces applied to the swingarm mounts .

What if I left those springs there? And the main shock is the new one...5 points of contact. Bam! The old ones are for support. Would that work better?

Don't know what kind of machine you have , but a lot of them have mechanical shocks ( pogo sticks ) no hydraulic dampening as opposed to a true coil over / hydraulic shock which are available aftermarket . A lot of folks swap in shocks from ATV & snowmobile applications ( blaster fronts ) Another option --- if your springs aren't sacked out you could do as you planned with a plain old hydraulic automotive shock to get your dampening action without excessive spring rate .

I have a home made off road buggy. I have a heavy duty jeep shock with I'm assuming, variable spring rate. I have 2 of them, but didn't want the ride to stiff....so I wanted to only use one and hope all was well. But, with your insight, I see I need some stabilization. Yes, the shocks that are on there now, are pogo sticks. The ones I want on there now, are a true shock. So....I'm wondering....if I should continue with plan B....

Here's the buggy. Still have to reinforce the roll cage

Fabrication is underway. Both jeep shocks will be mounted. Nearing completion. Not hard, just time consuming!!!

If they're too stiff maybe you could change the springs.

They aren't as stiff as I thought! But they work great!

Gonna want some real suspension when you have a fast motor.
