Default Bigger fenders or custom rear cab wall?

OK, so I bought a Hammerhead Twister 150 for the kids (and me of course), and when I'm running around in the mud the rear fenders don't really do much as far as stopping the mud from getting into the passenger area. Mud flings up over the back of the fenders and on to whomever happens to be on the buggy. So I've been looking at trailer fenders and figuring out ways in my head to mount them in place of the factory fenders to stop the mud flinging. Then I started thinking of making a rear cab wall out of something (tarp or vinyl mainly) to stop it after its flung from getting all over us. Anyone done either of these?

I'll chime in, for my kart the front fenders seem not low enough, as I've seen mud fling under them at me while the wheels are turned.
The rears work fine


Now, my rear fenders seemed adequate at keeping mud from entering, however when the kart rolled last fall they got damaged and while fixing them I learned some things that might help you:

I can see extending fenders with not too thick/heavy material, via pop-rivets and goop. I might do that for my fronts as a spring project.

I used some flat steel stock to make mounts for my stock rear fenders.
I'm still tweaking the position, but using the mounts you can play around with the height and angle some. I'm preparing for larger tires. I haven't had much of a problem with my fronts, other than the occasional person using them for a step, which does NOT work.
