Looking at two well maintained Carter buggies.

Looking for some good opinions from you fellas. I may have an opportunity to purchase two well maintained Carter 150cc buggies from a family friend. What would be considered a fair price? I'm thinking he may ask around $1000 for both. New carbs and batteries in both. The guy is a mechanic and takes care of his stuff. May buy both and sell one or keep both. I noticed in one of the threads Tom advised someone to stay away from the Carters. So Tom if you see this thread I would love your opinion as well. Thanks for any feedback guys.
