Default air filter issues

has anyone ever had an issue after adding a performance intake filter and the engine having no top end power?

a couple of things happen when you pop a aftermarket filter on.
firstly you add about 40% more air so you run very lean. If you didn't re-jet then you may be leaning out on top end resulting in a lack of power. If you carb is jeted somewhere around a 114, it could take a 121 or better to get the mixture right. That indicates just how much more air your getting.
Secondly. if you mount the filter directly to the carb then you create to much turbulence entering the carb which in turn causes the slide to react erratic. it will bounce up and down and may not fully open. The "velocity tube", that 7" tube between the filter and carb reduces the turbulence and straightens out the air flow.
