Brand new buggy addict with no background! ! Lol
Hey what's up! Y'all can call me chaos. I'm from NC. I didn't grow up on atv dirt bikes or other wise. I'm a technician in a cotton mill. I'm 36 yrs old. Two kids 8 (girl) 4 (boy). Divorced yyaaayy! . I have no background mechanically. My step dad passed away about 3 years ago leaving behind an ace striker 150cc buggy that he traded his 73 soft tail classic for for my daughter's bday one year. It has been sitting for about 3 years. I started messing around with it the weekend of my bday this year in June. Tore apart the carb cleaned it. Removed the gas tank cleaned it out. Got it back running. About a month ago got a set of maxxis tires from a friend who just bought a Polaris four wheeler and took the wheels and tires off the day he got it so they were barely used. A few weeks ago ordered a performance unrestricted cdi performance ignition coil (both no name brand to my knowledge) and a triple conductor spark plug. I learned the hard way that I had a dc buggy lol. I've removed the air box built a semi descent air intake so I think at least. To say the least it's become an addiction I've installed yellow led lights under it. I've had a friend at work weld all the rusted frame spots in the rear swing arm. I've adjusted the valve clearance which made a huge difference. Just received my new dc cdi yesterday have installed it today. And I'm really really hoping to get allot more accomplished in my new buggy addiction with the help of hopefully a great community of people who know allot more than I do lol. Anyone have any questions for me or tips etc etc etc I'd love to get into the learning asap thanks in advance!

Ty y'all for the comments. And for oldkid believe me it's pretty stout! I found out the hard way why I need to order some harnesses. Two days after I put the new rims and tires on I forgot about them thinking I had the old sick r tires on it and tried to slide it around a tree and instantly got thrown out the driver side like it had an ejector seat on it. It threw me about 15 ft I watched it roll once and then it landed on me. That was about 3 months ago and my legs have just now healed up. They looked like I was chewed on by a shark lmao. I laid there for a min then got it rolled off of me jumped up and made sure no one saw me rolled it back over and fired it up and rolled on to the house to park it! Lol lesson learned. ✅

Welcome to the addiction.Nice looking ride. Not familiar with that buggy. Hopefully it has the series B GY6 since there are a ton of mods for the engine. The series A however are difficult finding parts for and no performance parts are available.

How would I check the series of the engine?

First sign is if you have a 2 bolt or 4 bolt valve cover, second with valve cover off measure diagonally distance of 2 studs measured center to center. You should come up with either 3" or 3 1/8". Most A series engines will use the 2 bolt valve cover but there have been some series B engines that used the 2 bolt cover. Most important is the stud spacing. 3" spacing will be the series B engine where the 3 1/8" spacing will be the series A.

Welcome, Chaos! I think the easiest thing I've done, so far, to get performance out of my machines, is to remove and deburr the head i.e. "port & polish" it. This is a free and simple thing to do, as long as you are pretty skilled with a dremmel! It will "free up" flow to the combustion chamber, allowing for better ignition in there!

Lol Ty bear but I think I might wait on that one! Right now I'm trying to get the exhaust off (again) so I can figure out what went wrong yesterday. I took off the exhaust heated it with a torch in a vice and bent the tubing so it would hang on the muffler mount again and when I put it back on it sounds louder and at a higher pitch (and like s***) when I took it off a thin piece of aluminum looking metal coil came out the bottom of the engine where the exhaust attaches. Common sense tells me that was a seal or gasket type device to wrap the protruding exhaust tubing that sticks up about 4-5mm over the flange. But that's just what I was thinking I don't have anyone around to confirm except you guys
