Default My new backup

not a buggy but i have plans to take Lucifer out of rotation for a bit and still want to get alot of riding in this year for a change. as a new years resolution i promised my wife i would close the shop 2 days a week so we could have a day to spend without distractions with each other. one of her peaves was that we dont get to ride much unless we go on a trip. for the last 4 years i have pretty much maintained a 7 day a week work schedule between my 2 businesses unless we take a planned vacay. so sundays if we are feeling up to it we plan to get some riding in locally. as far as Lucifer is concerned there are a bunch of things i would like to correct after 3 years of ride time on him and none of which are minor. i would like to do some suspension changes that involve a lot of reworking to the chassis because i believe that i can make it better. i just feel with how busy the shop has gotten that it will take me some time to do so.
the last thing was that if i was going to get another ride i wanted it to have a chance of fitting in my trailer along with Lucifer and the BMS800 and have 4WD to broaden my terrain horizons. lastly it had to have some power.
hopefully because i havent actually measured anything trailer wise i'll just hope, but this was the reason that i did not grab myself another BMS V Twin for myself.....too big.
So all of this blah , blah, blah is leading to the fact that i just picked up a Polaris ACE 900XC.
as of yet i have not even taken it further than around the dealership parking lot to load it on the trailer, so no feedback yet, but all of that plus any mods will be another thread.

I tried out the 900xc 2 weekends ago, absolute BEAST. The 60in. wide track is definitely suited for it, but I just can't handle the price tag, but maybe a used 570 in the future???

just a little update and some pics.
well so far logged about 650 miles on the ACE and no major issues. 2 trips to WV, 1 trip to TN and 2 race events and so far the only maintenance ive done is the oil change and routine lube. i did add some accessories but kept it simple. unfortunately and i am talking from a couple of months ago, i havent checked lately, the only accessories have been Polaris. the aftermarket hasn't caught up to it really. Ive added front and rear bumpers, the lower door kit, a 12" light bar, roof and a dry storage toolbox. again all of those are polaris which tends to get expensive, except the light bar. power is pretty respectable and the walker evans shocks that come with them are pretty good, although the springs are actually polaris which is probably the weak point of them. in feb i entered a local race event because they offered a single seat utv class. i was the only mono guy who showed up so they through me in with the 1000cc utv open class in which i placed 3rd out of 6 in both motos.
i have since the 1st jumping experience gotten the concept down now and quite frankly enjoy getting air any time i can. with a little practice using the throttle have pretty much learned to land level on command.
A month after purchasing the ACE i actually went back to the dealer where i got it and bought my wife an RZR900s. it has just gotten to the point the the travel rides we do are getting more and more challenging so the 4wd and the ground clearance was staring to become a must.
doesnt mean i like the buggies any less or want to choose one over the other, i just look at it as it is another extension of my love for riding. the only thing that the buggy and the ace have in common is the 4 wheels and the steering wheel. riding one compared to the other is as different as when i ride my dirt bike or quad it just depends on the mood that day. we are pretty much done with them for the year so i just need to do some prep for this winter. might do a ride in WV this feb.

Yeah whoops with a UTV is a lot tougher than on a bike or quad.
