Unhappy Hammerhead Twister 150 Problems.

Hi everyone! I am having problems with my Hammerhead go kart. I have good spark, compression, and fuel of course. Me and my fiance have tried everything. The Carb is new. But the only thing with that is my fiance messed with the air/fuel mixture screw not knowing what it was for. Could that be the reason why our buggy hesitates to start but doesn't?? Please help.

Turn the screw all the way in and then back it out 2 turns and try it.

All the way in (right) and back it out 2 turns (left). That should get you to where it will start but will still have to be properly tuned.

Ok thank you. I will try that tomorrow. Another thing, can bad starter also cause it not to crank up also? Sometimes we have to hit it with a hammer. Because it gets stuck sometimes.

Wrong section But if you have to hit the starter to make it work id replace it.....My old crossfire 150 used to kill starters every month or two. Edit....Valves being out of adjustment can make it hard to start

Guess I will be ordering another starter next week. Yes I really think that is our problem. Because when we had the carburetor off (Too clean it a little more) We did mess with the air/fuel mixture screw. Not knowing what it was. 🤦🤦

Intake and exhaust valve. Motor needs to be cold and turned over by hand till it gets on the compression stroke. you will need to take atleast one seat out but both would be better.

Just watch the video and you will see what im talking about.....Alot of time one or both valves will tighten themselves and cause low compression which causes it to be hard to start.

Edit....Yes do that first and see since its quick and simple.

Yeah valves were gonna be my 2nd suggestion if the mix screw didn't work. Since she admitted the screw was messed with I was gonna go best case and maybe thats it before digging deeper. Adjusting the valves really is not a bad job, sounds much more involved than it really is. You just have to have a 0.004 filler gauge to do it right. Might as well buy a set now. These little engines need them adjusted on a pretty regular basis.

Yes if you are having to tap on the starter to get it to crank then it does need to be swapped. IMHO the cables for these are badly undersized and I think that causes troubles with the starter overheating.

Don't get in over your head and tackle one thing at a time. Adjust the mix screw and see if it will crank even if you have to tap on the starter. If that gets it to fire up then change the starter.

Yes the fuel lines are routed correctly. I am going to try the mixture screw today. If that doesn't work, I will try adjusting the valve.

Don't break the jam nut lose before you check the valve lash with a feeler gauge. It may be in spec and may not need adjusted.
