I'm confused
I noticed on my old buggy, a Manco Vortex with an upped 9 hp B&S, the displacement was 205cc and 9 hp. The Carbide has a 150cc engine and 9.9 hp. Why is there more power coming out of the 150cc engine than the 205cc engine?

better use of cubes
also gy6 runs higher rpm's your 9hp quit at 3600 to 4800 rpm your gy6 stock quit around 7200 to 7500 rpm my punisher stock put out 10.2 to 10.5 hp olderthan

^ Exactly, they're just made to rev. But check out the amount of torque the r Briggs put out and the amount of torque the gy6 puts down and at what RPM.

8.75 ft. lb.s of torque @ 3500 rpms on the Briggs and 13 ft. lb.s of torque @ 7000 rpms I think.

Wow it was really only 8.75? My 9hp Subaru makes almost 14 and 2500 RPM. Anyway, my now failed point was that torque comes in at a much lower rpm resulting in the engine not having to rev its nuts off just to get through anything. lol

HP is the most overated figure tossed around. More important is the torque and at what rpm. Take for instance an atv producing 25 HP vs a tractor with the same HP. Both have the same HP but the tractor will not do the speeds of the atv and on the other hand the atv will not pull a load as the tractor will. The key is with the torque. The tractor's torque is made below 2000rpm making all its power at the lower end giving it pulling power whereas the atv is making its torque 5500 to 7000 rpm giving it its speed. In escence both motors have identicle HP but perform totally differant due to its torque range. Also most buggies are rated at 9HP, but this is figured on a stand whereas when put in a chasis with the running gear it might have 5 HP due to weight ocupancy and drive trane. TOM
