Default Winch: front or back?

Taking a survey of where to put my winch. I have good locations on the GTR 250 to weld a plate to attach it on either end. After a quick perusal of the boards, it looks like most have concerns that if you mount it on the front, it will get banged up , yet most mount it to the front anyways . It seems to me that the back would be less likely to get damaged driving through the woods.

On most setups I've seen, regular atvs included, it's in the front. If you've got enough room behind the front tubing/brush guard down low on the floor board, that's where I'd put one on mine.

Front seems like the logical choice...now...if you got the money...you could always put on two.
