thinking about buying this..
What kinda buggy is this? This is the only picture i have. I found this on craigslist listed for $1200. He told me he got it from northern tools about 2 years ago. I thought it was a hammerhead 150 ..but he said it's a maxuim 150cc with carter motor. He also said the battery is dead and needs a fuel filter. He said he would fix the problems just doesn't have time right now and i asked if he would take $950 for it ...i never bought a buggy ,but i have had 4 . I'm just a virgin about these buggys. My question is do you guys think this is a good deal for $950? or should i keep looking or offer less? hope the picture comes up..

That's what it be. It's a Maxxam 150 by ACESports which is a division of Carter Bros. Yep, Northern Tools and TSC sold these before they went all ASW Helix/Carbide on us. lol If that's all it needs is a fuel filter and a battery, $950 is a good deal for a 150cc buggy. If you pick it up and need the owner's manual, parst/service manual. I have 'em in pdf format for ya.

I thought it was a pretty good deal. He said he doesn't have anywhere to ride it since his friend sold his farm. I think i'm going to take a 2 hour trip tommorrow and have a look at it. If its as advertised i think I'll be a new buggy owner. I believe the problems are minor and are just from sitting in his garage for 6 months. If anyone has anymore feedback please reply, like i said i'm new to the buggy/gokart world. So any advice would be apprecited!

Looks pretty decent from the pics. Be sure to look through the buyers guide shown here. Also, post back to let us know if you got it or not.

Thanks for everyones help..i bought it for $950 he bought a new throttle cable and battery for it right before i got there. Like explained before he said it sat for almost a year,so it wouldn't start. I sprayed some starter fluid in the carb and it ran until the fluid ran out. That told me the carb is gunked up but i knew i could fix it. So i just finished putting the carb back on after soaking the jets in carb cleaner. I did get it running but if i gave it mid to full throttle it would bog down an lose power. Then i remembered i didn't take out the float jet and clean it. So tommorrow it suppose to rain all day so i'll tinker with it all day in the garage.IF i CAN'T get the carb right i'll just buy a new one...i believe i would like one with a manual choke.

If I put a 30 mm carb on this buggy what else should i need /should do to it? Also i was just wondering what about the wheels? If i wanted to get a new set of tires and rims what would bolt up to this? I would also like to know what are sliders and what do they do? Thanks in advance!

i run a 30 cv pumper
need the manifold for it too a uni filter a redneck intake might as well add no rev cdi gut your exhaust or replace it rollers roll in varitors sliders are "flat sided" slide in varotors if you go to new rollers 10g work good if you go to sliders 12g are good [usualy 2 grams higher] have fun & hope your girls are old enough to handle xtra power

i'm still having trouble with the carb? I can get it to idle but if i give it gas it bogs down and will cut off. How many turns should i put on the main jet does it go all the way in or do i back it out some? I did let it warm up for about 10 minutes and the plunger hasn't moved up, so i'm thinking the electric choke is bad? I still might order a 30mm pumper but i see i have to get a new intake with it also..:^/

you can't see the plunger move when installed. See this thread here for info on that:
http://www.buggymasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62 Still sounds like the jets are clogged. How did you clean them besides soaking them? Did you run a small wire of some kind through them? |

yes i cleaned them really good i ran a small wire through them and kept spraying carb cleaner through them. They looked very clean ,but i guess tommorrow i'll pull them out again. I do not have the air box installed right now so i can see down the throat of the carb when its running.

Well what I was getting at was to make sure that you don't bore out the pilot jet by using something like a small drill bit. The slightest changes to that can have a big impact. Also, an air compressor is your friend if you have one or a friend. You need to blow through all of the passages as well as cleaing the jets. Honestly, it is rare for me to find a carb that can't be cleaned. It does happen here and there but not very often. You'll get it, just a matter of time. Don't let it frustrate you either. These things are a lot of fun.
