spindle or hub collar?
I have a carter GTR 250 that is only 3 months old, but we have over 600 miles on it already.
I am having some wobble in my front right wheel. It's not a bent rim, cause I got 2 sets of hubs with different tires, and it occurs with both of the sets. I can grab the hub and rock it a little bit on the right, and the left seems tight. The castle nut on both sides are cinched down snug. Is this a worn hub, worn collars, or do I need a new strut and spindle? |

Check the bearings also the spindle. TOM

Ok, call me an idiot. I see. There is a failed wheel bearing inside of that hub...

Was it the bearing? TOM

Yeah unfortunately most of these things have junk bearings from the factory. Most recommend tightening the castles after each ride and in some instances you may need to add a washer to get it just right where it is tight and the pin will go in.

The only thing I have done to mine and in fact do it to every buggy I sell is to replace the cotter pins since the ones supplied are too thin and too soft. They also many times drill the hole in spindle off center or too far out. I have drilled many of new holes and even shimmed nuts, and that takes care of the problem. TOM

Yes, I had tried shimming, but did not fix the problem. I pulled the seal off the hub and the bearing was shot. I found a local motorcycle / ATV shop that replaced the bearing for me. I went ahead and did the other hub, since the cost was so little. We give this thing a good ride for the money.
