American Sportworks Helix 150cc engine swap?

I am thinking of buying a Helix 150cc buggy that does not run and needs some work. The person said I can have it "REAL CHEAP" but I think the motor may ne bad. It is missing some engine parts but I do not know what.

My question is: would a HF 212cc motor and TAV2 unit work on this buggy? I have a brand new FULLY worked motor and all new TAV2 unit and many other new parts here and I would like to use this stuff if possible to save $.

In addition to modding the upper part of the swingarm for clearance and building an engine platform on it, you'd also have to relocate the sprocket on the axle to the right side.

You weren't kidding about rough shape. Looks like it would need a complete restoration to bring it back to its former glory. That being said, the helix is one of my favorite looking frames. Parts for the GY6 are pretty reasonable, and it would save you some time and frustration with messing with the axle and swing arm.

the biggest thing I see missing is the gas tank.

I have one just like this, and if I was you I would try to keep it original unless you are wanting some kind of speed demon. lol

No clue. When I spoke to him last he said not to think of ANYTHING high cause he will let it go REAL CHEAP were his exact words. I was going to offer $50 and go from there.

Right now i wouldn't worry about the engine; looks like most of it is there. my concern would be the frame rust, especially the lower frame going around the floorpan. I'd look close and tap/poke on the tubing with a large screwdriver. When i got my daughter's HH mini, the pics made it look ok, i picked it up at night, outside with poor lighting. next day i found i had to replace the entire lower surround tubing and some of the uprights--totally rotted through at the floorpan.

I did not lay down and inspect it but I did check most of the rust and it seems to be mostly surface. I have a manual pipe bender if needed. I have been trying to get a hold of the seller for a few days now but no luck. I was thinking of trying to get all of them off of him. He has quite a few toys laying around. Lol

Rooster did you have any luck getting these buggies or buggy?
