Default all buggies are not created equal!

I gotta say, this latest helix that we have is actually getting faster. The fastest one we ever had was the one that I had modded heavily with cam exhaust etc and I think I had it at 43.9 mph. This helix we have now is stock other than the CDI box and that thing did 43.2 mph yesterday on the GPS. No idea why it is this fast but sure am happy about it.

my carbide only tops out at 38 down hill stock,
but because of where i live it may have been geared lower for more pulling and climbing

My carbide runs at about 40mph with 10g sliders at about 45 with 13g sliders and at about 43 with 3 10g and 3 13g sliders ( do to the muddy conditions right now running all 10s )

The "stock" GY6 engines are usually a long time coming, as far as peak performance is concerned.
One scooter(mine) I documented continued to escalate top speeds from the 0 mile mark, through the 2000 mile mark.
They are very sensitive and responsive to valve adjustments too. Brand new, outta the box, my valves were gapped at .001" intake, and .001" exhaust...it wouldn't start. I reset at .004in/.006ex and it has run well ever since. Valves checked and re-done at 250 miles, 500 miles, and every 1000 since. Now at 4000 miles, they are showing very little change. The first 3 checks required re-adjusting both valves, as they were closing up.

Just a head's up, keep the valves adjusted, and oil fresh, they'll get better for a long time, before they level out.

How do you adjust the valves? Tools? Easy? I have a GY6 on my son's Dazon. I have no problems. Just wanting to know. Thanks.

Take off the valve cover. On each valve you will have a small 8mm nut and a even smaller tap. Loosen the nut. Slide a a feeler guage under the rocker arm and over the valve. Turn the smaller tab untill you feel slight drag on the guage. Hold the tab as you tighten the nut. I adjust every time I have a whole day ride

Most of the GY6's I work on have a 9mm adjuster lock nut, and a 3mm square adjuster.

The key to adjusting the valves is being sure you have the timing right. I have seen them adjusted 180 degrees out, and you really don't wanna go there. On a stock engine, with a stock cam, when you remove the valve cover, you'll see the cam and gear with chain going round. LOOK at the timing gear. It has 3 holes in it. Imagine the surface of the head as the horizon... the center hole goes at 12 oclock high, the other two will be level with the horizon, one on each side. NOW you're ready to adjust valves.

I use american numbers and measurements here. Take a .004" feeler and check the intake clearance, adjust as necessary. Exhaust I use .006".
