Carbide project is running but slowww takeoff
Finally fixed my carbide150cc that i bought with a cracked piston. Engine is running great but seems to have trans. issue.
Putting it in F or R it does not engage until 10% throttle. Then will start moving a decent amount at 50% throttle and higher. Not going wot yet because rings are not broken in yet. Does this sound like a clutch or belt problem? I think the kart sat for a year or two before i bought it. |

It all depends on ur variator weights. The lighter the weight the more you'll have to rev before it enguages... just a thought...Eddie.

Most of these things come stock with very heavy weights in he variator which is not bar on a light scooter but for a heavy buggy it causes lack of power on takeoff because the cvt starts shifting to high aost immediately on takeoff. Lighter weights (sliders work best) will allow the cvt to hold that lower gearing longer allowing the rpm's to get higher. Also on the having to rev high before moving it sounds like whoever had it before had higher rpm clutch springs installed.

Having to give 10% throttle before it starts to move is why I brought that up that may have been the reason. Idk what size weights (powerstrokeon40) has on his buggy I'm assuming that what his problem may be... that's a good article you wrote good info thanks. ... Eddie.

The clutch may be worn , or stiff clutch springs were installed. But not knowing what weight rollers or sliders makes it harder to figure out. Also a worn belt will sit deeper in the variator and out further on the drive pulley causing it to take more rpm to engage the clutch. The doctor pulley variator that was in my wife's buggy let the belt sit deep and it would not move until 1/4 throttle that was good for take off and spinning the tires.
I would run the motor no more than 1/2 to 3/4 throttle for the first hour of run time then change the oil and clean the screen to make sure no gasket or metal is in the motor. Also maybe when it warms up the clutch will engage sooner. Our buggys when cold have a higher rpm it seems, but when hot the springs in the clutch engage sooner. |
