Before you put the new CDI and Coil, did you
do anything else to it? Did you get a new spark plug? If no, you might want to buy a new one. Did you check if you getting enough power out of you battery? Check grounds and connections It also might be the stator.

|
new findings
well im working on this gokart as a side job and they want it to excede 50mph with the acceleration it has now. so i am doing what i can, but before i met them they took it to a shop to have it serviced. when the shop took the fly wheel off they jacked the ignition pick-up sensor so it fired up the first time but when they killed it they didnt realize that the flywheel beat the poop out of the sensor. so i have already bought the magneto stator kit luckly only a 37 dollar screwup. and was wondering how to set-up some hella black magic hid's. i may try and do a 24 volt set-up with a regulator. similar to bmw's rig.

Almost forgot to mention, the Helix has a DC based CDI. This is uncommon. MOST are AC based. If at any time someone put an AC based CDI in, that is a problem.
To get 50 mph on these will require a re-gearing and bigger tires. Fastest I have had one yet is 44 mph I think. GPS verified. |

Buggy Master's right - if you hooked up an AC CDI to a DC CDI rig, it blew the CDI right away and will not start.
To make matters worse, DC CDI's are pretty difficult and fairly expensive to come by as they're not commonly used on the buggies. -Mike

orignally from factory they had the plug on the ac outlet in the connector and it ran, when i got the new cdi i kept it the same, then changed it to dc. after that didnt work i pulled the flywheel cover off and saw the ignition timing sensor messed up.

So, you've got the timing sensor issue fixed, right?
In the midst of doing all the switching back and forth before you found this issue you may have fried the CDI -- do you have another (from your friend's buggy, perhaps?) that you could swap on and try?

They are definately DC based in stock form. You have to do a re-wire to even be able to use the AC based ones..

All I know is that the few times customers hooked up one of my AC CDIs to their DC buggy (either because they didn't READ my product listing saying not to do this, or because they simply weren't paying attention...) the CDI fried immediately on the first key-turn, and never worked again.
In this case, I'm guessing the CDI you've been trying to use is dead.

I think even in the re-wire, it has to go to a different pin or something to use AC. Not a direct swap of the wire if I remember right.
