2012 Annual Buggy Bash
Just want to let everybody know the Annual Buggy Bash will be June 22,23,& 24 at St Joes State Park in Pimville Missouri. This has been getting bigger every year. The park camping arrangments are second to none, showers feature warm water, bathrooms are immaculate. Trails are more strategic with washouts and huge rocks to steer around. The open areas are sand, lake for swimming, lake for fishing, kids playground. This place is first class. The people are great and is very family oriented. If your looking for a good time this is it. Bring the kids. If you want an electric spot you will have to reserve very soon . Reservations are taken 6 monts in advance so many are getting ready to reserve. Google Missouri State Parks then click on St. Joes. There are pics of the camp sites and ridding areas, prices ect. Don't miss out on the time of your life. Guarenteed.

How strict are they in regards to the single rider per atv rule? My sister-in-law was wondering if she would be able to putz around on the 4 wheeler with her daughter. I told her she might just have to borrow one of the buggies for the weekend.

They do inforce the rules if caught. If only designed for one person I would not chance it.

If it is intended for one person it can only have one person. Everyone even in the camping area MUST wear a DOT approved helmet also. That is riding.

No we have had it in Missouri for the past 5 years. It has the best acomodations and is the most centrally located from east of the Rockies to east coast. There are other places but they either lack the camping essentials for families such as warm water clean showers and clean bathrooms as well as ample campsites with electric for campers and our portable shops. Every year it is reviewed, since people are constantly looking for something better or more centrally located but so far St. Joes has gotten the thumbs up by a great majority, but were always looking.

yes st joe is the best place we have found that has everything. the staff is very nice, the campgrounds are great and has terrian for everyone. I got the same site as last year. I think most of campground 1 is full

Were going to have the drag races, scramble, and hill climb competition. Drags will have the following classes, 110cc and below(kids), 150 stock (includes basic mods eg. cvt mods Uni jetting exh mods), 150 mod ( cam bigbore head work ect), 150 super mod (any mod including stroker cranks), 250 -350 stock, 250-350 mod, 400&larger , 2 cycle. These are not sanctioned races of any kind and are for the fun of it. Just a get together for us buggynuts to test our buggies and have some bragging rights. So it is not per say an organized race for to do so the park would require the permits and insurance needed for an organized event. Besides we don't want to get too organized for our main purpose of being there is to have fun. Were planning on running the drags on Friday which will be for times and grudges only then Saturday morning run to see who is king in their class. The scramble will be Saturday sometime after the drags with the hill climb to follow. Hope to see you there.

Good Question!! This is the reason I want to hold a sort of qualifying round on Friday. A stroked and fully bored 150 is very close and sometimes over 200cc depending on the amount of stroke and bore. Most already know the performance gains between the stock gy6 and cn250 vs the moded. I will assume you will be in the 150 super mod since the cc's will be close, but since you fall betwen a 150 and 250 the times run on Friday will determine where you end up. The main thing is we want everyone to have fun and not feel they have to put money a bunch of money in their buggy to have a chance to win. This is why we traditionally split classes of 150 and 250. I had just came up with the idea this year for the 150 super mod for those of us who have the stroked engines, since they have a tendency to run quicker in the 300ft. The last couple years the stroked 150's mostly won, so we are going to try to mix things up a bit so others don't feel they have to dump more money in their buggies in order to win. Don't want to make this too complicated either.

Don't know what kind of timing/start system (if any) you have, but why not set it up as a bracket race (if possible). Let everyone have 2 time trials to figure out their dial-in and then run em off.

We are limited on what we can do for we have no lights or time equiptment. What we plan is the line judge will blow the air horn which starts the race as well as the finish line judges stop watches. On Friday all will run 2-3 times, no elimination. This is for us to get times of each buggy for an average time. Saturday will be the eliminations, we will pair the people in their respective classes by there time average to the best of our ability, for it won't be perfect.The first to cross the finish line will be the winner and go on to the next race until we have a winner in each class. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winner in each class. There is a thread on the BN forum for all to let us know what they will be running so that we can tweak the classes since there are many with Frankenbuggy mods. Not sure what we will do yet with the 2 stroke buggies. This is the reason for the thread so that we can determine before time. Were trying to keep things simple and efficient since most will be there on average 3 days. We have so far 3 events and maybe a fourth for which we will have basically 1 day to run as well as trail ridding. So you can see why we don't want things too complicated and want to run them as efficiently as possible. We also want this to be more fun then competitive. If it were me alone I like competitive since I love dragracing, but most will like it more for the fun and not as much for its competitiveness. We don't want people to think the only way they can win is to have a bunch of money in their buggy. The plan is like in the past is to have trophies to give out. Donations may be accepted but as of now we have not asked for any. It will depend on how many classes we will be running. I will touch on the other 2 events in the near future.

Are the campgrounds full yet? Normally that is my busiest time of the year so getting enough time away to make the trip is next to impossible. I've dropped the bomb and given ample notice/warning. It still may end up being a last minute decision.

Anyone from here that wants to attend you will not regret. It family friendly, the campgrounds are top notch and the after the riding is nothing but entertaining.
Friday night during and after hambuger heaven if you are a early sleeper you will miss a great time. Tom, another BN member and myself are working out the details of awards of some sort. Any and all monitary donations will be recognized and appreciated. All the electric sites are reserved for that weekend, but there are non-electric sites still available. The sites are big, so you may also have a chance to share a site if you know someone that is attending.

PGH comes to the bash every other year. I think they take a week before and a week after. They stop every day somewhere else to ride and camp, there and back. Kinda the vacation I can only dream of right now. I believe he is somewhere around Seattle. Even going to the Bash in Missouri is only 5 1/2 hours but I go for just about the whole week.
No we never done the poker run, with most getting there on Thurs. and Fri. we have enough with the drags, hill climb and scramble. We try not to be too organized just efficient since everybody is there to chill and not get in a hurry to do the events. But it will probably replace something one year. |

My Yerf had no problems with St. Joe Park in 2009 and was one of the few 150's at the time that could do the hill climb (even a couple 250cc and 300cc buggies struggled). Much has changed since then and there are many more 150cc buggies that are capable at this park and the only way a modified 250 will fail you at the park will be due driver error.
Low gearing and tall tires will be your friends at this park since it has many rocks and rough trails at various degrees of inclination. I always preferred to slow crawl verses using speed/momentum and I'm sure it saved my rigs from damage that others saw since mine are not that much beefier than others... |

Were always glad to see new faces, the trails are kinda tough so you won't get much speed on them. They have the sand flats as well to open up on. The camping is the best I've seen. The people are great for it is family oriented while us big kids still have our fun. Friday is Hamburger Heaven night compliments of FUNNYMAN . I will be in Campground 1 , E12 to be exact so make sure to stop so I can meet you guys. In fact that site is the main site where all information for events, rides ect will be available. Right now as stated earlier Hamburger Heaven is Friday night at camp E10 usually starts around 7-8 pm. Friday afternoon I plan on having drag trials just to get peoples times to be certain everyone ends up in the proper class, with eliminations so far schedualed for mid Saturday morning with the hair scramble to follow then the hill climb. For the drag races there will be the kids class 110cc and below, 150 stock, 150 mod, and 150 super mod. 250cc stock and mod, then 400cc and larger. The 250 class will include 300cc, the 150 class will go up to 250cc. If you have a 200cc like metal this is what the trials will be for to determine if he will run the 150 class or 250 class but chances are it will run the 150 class. I'm trying to make it as fair and competable as possible. Others are running the scramble and hill climb so I don't have much info on them right now but will report back as I get the info. I hope to see as many of you as possible from Buggymasters attend for this event. The annual buggybash has nothing to do with any forum except to get the word out. Its all about the buggy community for people to see what great people make up this community as well as the fun one can have in this sport. The buggy bash was made possible in 2005 due to the hard work of Steve Hopkins founder of Buggynews and Stuart Taft owner of Blade Powersports solely for the promotion of this sport. The bash has increased every year in numbers even through the hard economic times. So if anyone else is borderline with their decission to attend let me just say that it will make a great family vacation where everyone has fun, the camping is great with very clean restrooms as well as clean warm showers. Now I do believe that all the electric sites have been taken so it will either be tents or campers in a more primitive setting without electric. Showers and restrooms are centrally located in campground 1. Hope to see more of you join us and don't forget to stop by E12 to say hellow and to get the scoop as to what is on the agenda and when.:banan a: Oh and I will be arriving on Tuesday 6-19.

I'm so excited for all of the Buggy addict's that are able to attend the bash- We just can't afford it-1400 miles worth of fuel just isn't in my very tight budget I have, as I still haven't landed a descent paying permanent job yet. I'm sad that I won't be able to meet & play with the fine members of this forum in person. I know everyone that attends will take some good pictures/video to share with us that can't go and post some good stories too.

LOL, kliff... no he didn't show... Soapkart (Will) did make it down with his yerf he was in the campgrounds next to me he's a really great guy and his yerf held up great in the trails as well. Sorry I did not get to spend more time with T3beatz and soapkart, with organizing the drags and being bummed my son did not come I was kinda preoccupied in mind. Cannot wait for next years Bash. For those who thought about comming but funds did not allow, try to make it next year. It has always been the 3rd weekend in June. Although a trek for some we choose it for it's central location, great camping with warm clean showers and clean restrooms. The trails can be challenging and you won't go fast but they have the sand flats to open up on and quite a few sandy trails. The people are great and is Family oriented. Try to plan ahead and put some funds aside for next year. Electric spots usually are reserved the end of December 6 months in advance. This year due to the small turnout there were plenty of electric sites on the 100 side although many were reserved several cancelled the last minute due to either new jobs or funds. We do this to try and grow the sport which results in smaller local rides to accure. As I said before and I think T3beatz and soapkart will back me up, it will make for a great vacation for the family or for ones self. Guaranteed.

As many of us know -it seems like 60!!! but is really 30mph. Tom- My biggest let down this year outside of a good job was missing the bash & meeting you and the other forum members. I'd love to have helped the Spiderbox head count too & punish it somewhere else but here!! My daughter was all bummed out when I told her we couldn't make it- my wife was relieved she wasn't going to be setting in a truck for 14hrs.!!! I know someone took pic's and vid's--Where are they? |

Definitely gonna try for next year, but no promises, as I'm dad's caretaker, it's kinda hard to just take off for a week, Sometimes, just a day is hard to schedule. But I'll do my best.
What's the rule on no generators though? I don't mind shutting down at night(noise) but sure would like to keep the AC going in the trailer during the hotter part of the day....that is, when I'm in it....most of the time I'll be on the buggy, or fraternizing....LOL

I was having so much fun riding I forgot to take pictures. My dad grabbed a couple with his cell phone and I did remember to throw on the GoPro before the group ride. Unfortunately the GoPro memory filled up before we hit the good section of trails T3beatz, stl_kel and the crew hit after the group split up. Regardless here is the video I made with what I had and it will give you some sort of and idea when people talk about all the sand. Enjoy

great video Soapkart, And that was the short part of the ride! it took us what it seemed like forever to get through the other side of trail 100.

It was a blast! I'm definitely going to try to go again next year and hopefully extend my stay a couple more days. It's a very nice park. Tom was right on with his description. I wish my camera wouldn't had filled up because the later trails were definitely more exciting and would have made for some killer video footage.

Yeah, the hill we climbed for the event had nothing on some of the hills deep off in the woods. My friend and I got to hit some of them but we didn't want to break our buggies the first day so we stopped and headed back to the camp.
The crazy thing is later on he broke his buggy on the way back on some easier trails... pulled the output shaft right out of the bearing, good thing someone had one with them.

Great vids, the one thing I didn't get to do were the trails, just before the group ride my fans quit working and eng. was getting hot. Oh well there is next year to look fwd. to.

what Tom you didn't get to do the trails? That was some of the best riding... but I know you were downed about your Son not being there. Hopefully next year he can make it, or maybe he can make it to the Fall Blackriver ride?

I spent all day Wednesday drinking and unloading the trailer. Made some short drives around the campsite to see who arrived after every buggy unloaded about one per hour. LOL then Thursday done some more drinking and scoped out the location for the drags. Rode the sand flats for a while. By the time everyone started filing in at the bash on Friday I was trying to organize and do the trials for the eliminations on Saturday. Oh and I think I may have had a few beers. Saturday held the drags then ran the scramble and hillclimb, went to camp to make something to eat then it was group picture time. On the way for the pic the 250 run hot and I then realised my fans weren't comming on so I went back to camp and jumped into the 650 but by the time I got back everyone had left on the group ride so I went back to camp and had some more beer. Had the camera's mounted on the 250 and 650 but no one to ride so no video either. But all in all I had a great time.

Wow, sounds like you had a busy few days... sorry you missed the group ride, it wasn't to long anywayz. Most people dropped off after the end of Soapkarts video, and that was only 14mins from start to finish. That's why the yerf crew went on to finish up the ride for another 30 mins through the rest of the trail.

What were the day time and night time temperatures like out there, this year?
It was in the mid 90's to lower 70's here that week, I'm just trying to figure what the comfort factor would be.

I don't ever remember ridding that part of the trail. It seemed in great shape. Previous years parts we rode had some serious ruts and huge bolders you had to steer around, top speed averaged 10mph in those areas. The trails at Buggyrunners house are 95% pedal to the metal. Glad you soapkart and gang had a great time.

Not really sure what the temps were, I'd have to say low to mid 80's during the day with low humidity but at night I had to cover up in the tent for it got chilly. I got in Tuesday evening, Saturday was the warmest however on Sunday while packing up it was much warmer with the humidity. So we got lucky again this year with weather.

That is sounding better....If I have to cover up at night, I'm comfortable. If I'm sweating my nads off, and trying to sleep...I ain't comfortable!
And IF I can go, my reservation will be so late, I'm sure there won't be any electrical sites available, that's why I was/am curious about the generator rule. I was planning on bringing tools, welder, etc...and a generator. Don't mind shutting down at night, but sure would like to have the ability to use it during the day, into evening, say 8:00PM. After 8:00pm, I'm gonna be looking forward to kicking back, and don't wanna hear no generator, welders, grinders, or nothing else. If it ain't fixed by then, it'll get fixed the next day.

Tom- just so you'll know-If I can make the trip next year I'm going up early just to help "you" out!!! I'm also gonna get a BUGGYMASTERS.COM decal made and tack it on one of my toys just so we can have some representation in photo's/vid's!!!!That may sound weird but I don't follow any other forums and I think it would be nice for others to know we're available as a family friendly alternative resource on the internet for go karts/mini-buggies.

the week before i was ready go my whole steering system broke i was training for the hill climb hit a bump at about 40 and ruin the entire steering system i can show u pics of it. cost is 756.75 to fix it all but ill be out there next year im po i missed it.
