Default VIDEO- How to change your main jet in your carb!

If you ever wondered what all is involved with changing your main jet in your carb, I made a video to show you. This does not show you how to take it off. It assumes the carb is off and in your hands.

The shorter one is the Main Jet
The longer one is the Pilot Jet.

If you're putting just the UNI Filter,
you'll need a bigger Main Jet.

When I had UNI, an A9 Cam, and an FMF exhaust, it took every bit of a 150 jet to get the correct AFR. Even right now, I would not be surprised if you needed a 140 with just the UNI. American Sportworks machines are unique in that they run very lean from the factory due to the machining process on their carbs. That is why you have to use what seems like such a large jet. In stock form, they like about a 130. I would actually start out with a 140 and see how it does with that.

Actually, for most carbs, just a small bump of say 2 sizes will make quite a difference. American Sportworks machines are unique because of an issue that they have in the machining process on their carbs (best I can tell it is a machining issue).

The jet? I just keep them cause you never know when you might need them. You should be able to find jets at your local motorcycle shop. Take your old one to them and tell them what size you need.

P.S. Normally, a 125 would have been fine. Just not in an ASW machne. They like a 128 or 130 in stock form.

Oh it will work but it will still be running a bit lean. Not something you want to keep in there for a long time.

Autozone won't carry them. You need a motorcycle shop. Like our local Yamaha dealer has some and so does the honda shop.

I just found this thread.

For MOST buggies, we have found that when just the UNI filter upgrade is being done, a 125 or 130 jet works out perfectly. There are *always* going to be slight variations to what is perfect for a given vehicle based on the parts used in its manufacture, the exact operating environment, and the other components you may have added or modified.

In our UNI upgrade kits we always include 2 jets, and are happy to swap out the "typical" 125 and 130 for any two sizes you prefer. 99% of the time it's not an issue because one of those two sizes works for most people.

Thank you for the video.
Quick question, do you have to completely remove the carb from the engine in order to rejet it?

Depending on clearance, you may be able to loosen the clamp and rotate the carburetor to gain access to the bowl.

It might be possible to rotate it but there's an alignment spline at the top that keeps the carb from rotating while seated in the intake.I'd think leaning over would be hard on the back and you will probably need a little leverage to remove a stubborn jet.I'd remove it completely, to rotate it you'll need to disconnect most everything anyways. If you drop anything it might be hard to find if still over the engine!!!!
