Default Baja Doodle Bug

Back in early September I found a Baja Doodle Bug for sale on CL. The guy wanted $100 for it and claimed it was like new. I wanted a minin bike for my9 year old daughter so I figured what the heck; I will at least check it out.
I got there and he said his son rode it maybe 4-5 times and wanted a dirt bike so he was selling it cheap to get rid of it. The bike looks and runs great. Not even any paint chipping on kick stand.
Brought it home and hid it in neighbors garage till Christmas afternoon. After she opened all her presents I sent her to the garage to collect some things. That is when we heard the the screams of joys and got the big thank yous and hugs

It is a 96cc 2.5 hp Baja Doodle bug. Can be governed too. Has a 150lb weight limit, which didn't stop this 200lb Dad from riding it.
With her on it it can hit approximately 20 mph. She loves it and knows she will be doing all the maintenance and care of it. She now flies pass the neighborhood brat on her electric razr scooter Hahaha LOL. My daughter is still humble though.

Here are a few pics and vids.

Thats awesome! I love those little bikes, so crude, but so much fun to beat around on. IIRC, the doodles are pretty much all the same size frame, so in time, you can grab a predator 7hp and stuff in there and should do somewhere around 40mph, and then the tinkering starts, lol.

So true Masteryota. I was already thinking about if and when engine goes bad to replace with larger 6.5 Hp. And adding these http://m.ebay.com/itm/370600191690?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1 on all for parts of the frame.

Hey Masteryota. I was thinking of changing the rear sprocket on her mini bike and keeping the same 98cc 2.5 hp motor for now.
She wants to make it up the hills a little easier.
Currently-stock the rear sprocket has a 70 tooth. If I go to a smaller sprocket with less teeth that should increase her torque. Correct??

No. You need to go bigger on the wheel, or smaller on the clutch to get a 'lower' gear ratio. Seeing as those run small wheels and tires, you may not be able to go bigger without the chain touching the ground. My recommendation is a bigger engine. Keep in mind, you can easily install a throttle stop to limit the speed, but will still have the torque to storm the trenches.

Right now, HF has a sale on the 6.5 for $99. I look at it like this, too much power can be governed, too little power has to be replaced. I would look into a TAV for the 6.5 to really help with the low and top end performance, but a clutch will work for the little one. Remember, the rule for go karts and mini bikes is 6:1 gear ratio. To get this, divide the larger sprocket tooth number by the smaller one. 7:1 or lower will limit the top speed, and will climb walls, if you let it.

Thanks for the info. I will go smaller on clutch sprocket for her. I want to leave the smaller lighter engine in hers. It makes it easier for her weight wise.
However I have also been looking for another mini bike for myself. Which will get the 6.5 Hp engine. Thanks again.

oh well. I already have the 11T on her clutch. Looks like the 10T is for bigger chains.

Yeah, its a catch22 with the mini bike/go kart stuff. Most clutches have the sprocket as part of the bell, and only the higher end ones can you change out the sprocket. I would open up the intake and maybe the exhaust to let it breathe, that might give it the oomph she needs to get up those hills.

As for your MB, grab one of those predators, and open the intake and exhaust, and you will be pleasantly surprised how fast those things can go. If you want, I can try to dig up some kart racing sites for parts.

Oh you better believe I will. When I get one I even plan on putting shocks on it. It will be so much fun. I might not open exhaust as I do want to be some what quite for camping and riding at night in the neighborhood.

I have seen some exhaust set ups on the DIY go kart forum that are close to stock sounding, but still open the exhaust up for performance. The stock 'spark arrestor' basically blocks the flow to stop any sparks from exiting the engine, this creates a huge flow block that tends to get packed with carbon and soot. I will see if I can find a pic of one.

Here is a decent kit that will set up you up nicely. Of course you can crazy and do rod, flywheel, cam and so forth, but this would be the best improvement for the money, and the stock style briggs screw in muffler won't be obnoxious.

Default Bought another Mini bike for $20

renaming it the Doodle Devil

1st pic- how I bought it
2nd pic - is gas tank mount I made to reuse the old tank.
3rd pic - is the custom Devil's tail sissy bar I made.
4th pic- primed

I plan on painting the bike black with red fenders, tail, and hand grips.
and installing the 5hp Briggs flat head I rebuilt. Briggs engine is from 1980 something, I made custom intake manifold to house a honda clone carb (to get rid of the tank and carb combo ), and made a custom exhaust.
here is a vid of engine

I ran one of those little doodle bugs for a while with the stock engine but later I dropped a Honda 5.5hp in it and man what a ride. The first time one of my brothers rode it (having some fun in front of all of our kids) he wasn't expecting the torgue curve and it jumped right out from under him running a stock clutch and the original rear sprocket. It even carried me up some pretty steep hills in the AZ mountains with no trouble. The only hard part was trying to stay on it bouncing from rock to rock with no suspension. Later I switched it over for 4 fat tired Baja mini bikes.

I wanted on of those.... But for $20 I couldn't pass it up. I look forward to this being a mean machine. Just thinking I should have made a wheelie bar. Oh well maybe later...
