Some times ill be riding and ill try to go up a big or straight up hill and the motor will die and the back wheels will lock up when i try to go backwards and the pull start wont try to rip your arm off but its hard to pull. Is it just flooding?

It could be flooding and trying to hydrolock. Next time you go out, take tools to remove the plug, then try to start it. Remind us what brand engine is on there, I think they came stock with the Tecumseh 5.5hp.

Either that, or the belt is pulling too deep into the driver pulley. You may be hitting a point where the engine just can't pull the hill, the tav is letting the driver open up to the max and the belt stays pinched down in. that would lock up the engine and wheels until the pulley opens with rotation and releases the belt. Next time it happens, check the pulleys and see where the belt is. if it is happening more often, either time for a new belt or brass bushing that sits between the sheaves of the driver.

This is the most likely scenario. It would be the first time I've seen and engine run rich enough to lock up without other tell tales.

How far does the belt need to be for it to be locked up because it was pretty down there

it's not so much how deep it's going, (unless the belt is riding on the shaft/bushing and wrapping around from below) it's the hill you're attempting and the power output of the engine ... the hill is winning the battle.

the tav is going to its lowest range and the engine still can't pull the hill and stalls, leaving the belt locked down in the pulley. you're attempting to restart the engine with it basically stuck in drive.

only recourse may be to re-gear with a smaller sprocket on the jackshaft or a larger one on the axle. if you have a 6" diameter driven pulley, you could go up to a 7 inch one.

No, you'd just make it quicker initially and lose some top end mph. it would pull hills more easily.
