Default ouch!!! that was not good

today i was riding the helix . great day of riding.and ..i was doin a top speed run. not that great of one though ,

at full throttle i started to turn and i havent had a nice rain in a couple months so it was like marbles alllllll over

thensuddenly
--------------------------------------------------------------------------BAM!!!!

i was sliding at 46.8 mph ahhhhhhhhhhh i mean AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH1!!!!!
at least i was smart to put tires around the track.
90% side ways i slammed a truck tire .
it was dirt filled even with the rimb

that tire litterally shot through the air 15 feet!!!

the tire stopped me from rolling over or even going on 2 wheels

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THANK GOD !!

When I put on the performance parts on my Carbide! I let my wife take me for a ride . we hit the first turn and she was drifting and laughing so I thought she was ok.But then she hit the first jump at 45 mph Laughing(she was laughing because she was out of control and scared and panicked never let off gas)We flew about 6 feet till the tree stopped us bent the front of the buggy up broke the lights but we were not hurt other then she had a hickey from the seat belt. She wont drive the buggy anymore HaHa

WTF there are at least two storys in this thread claiming 45+ mph in a 150 cc buggy, hell i had to turbo mine just to break 40MPH how are these people getting 45mph out of 150 cc buggys, i did every single bolt on known to man and wasnt able to even get 40. these buggys must be light as heck or the speedometers are wacked lol

I GPS'd mine at 44. Those singles like yours are fairly heavy and not all 150's are created equal. This Helix we have now is that fast however I've had another one that only did 37 or so.

oh yeah they do, there is hardly any protection for a roll or a flip and the tubing that is there dont seem to be very strong. reminds me of my buddys baja , it looks great but i wouldnt want to flip it or roll it down a hill while in it, now my coolster i have done all that and its fine and so am, i guess it depends on what type of riding your gonna do, if your in a yard or a flat track all the time it wouldnt be to bad and would be fast, but if your jumping and climbing steep banks i wouldnt wanna wreck in any thing that didnt have allot of protection.

i drive in a big lot and there is a hill to get there in. there is a small gravel path and in my small story did i say it got hurt? let alone did i get hurt badly? NO! its a solid bar. its very good and mine is faster then yours if its a 150 challenger.

when you get older and have more experience with roll cages that have to pass IHRA and NHRA tech then you will understand, the bars the helix uses as a "roll bar" are tinker toy bars, they are very small and thin, the buggys over all light weight contributes to the inertia it generates in a roll and thus allows for less impact force, however in certain wrecks the inertia wont always be the only factor, the bars used on a coolster/challenger are much much thicker and larger and more thoroughly used through out the chassis, this advantage in strength unfortunately contributes to the weight disadvantage, fact of the matter is if i was forced to decide which buggy style i would want to be rolled over in end over in its a no brainer decision. the only advantage i see is the power to weight factor, and if i was only racing on a flat track i would definitely want that lighter weight, but my style of riding demands i have the maximum protection i can possibly get so im stuck with a heavier all be it safer chassis. again this is something you will not understand until you have more experience, i just am blessed to have more years under my belt involved in racing and the design of a safe chassis then many of you have been alive period.

and here is a real easy way for you to visualize exactly what i am talking about. up first we have a helix, notice the thin bars and the lack of cross angles and support bracing around the passenger, also notice the lap/shoulder belt that holds you in, very unsafe in almost any wreck.

now notice the coolster seen here, the bars are much much thicker and there are also many more braces and cross supports, also notice the 4 point racing harness that holds you in the seat more securely then a lap/shoulder belt can. when you compare these two pictures its pretty clear that the helix is not something you would want to roll over in.

pretty easy to see in these two pics isnt it?

i still might get a helix for some flat track racing , but i will install a better harness thats for sure, my buddys manco has the same lap shoulder set up as the helix and it wasnt very secure.

yeppers infact iwas going to get a coolster but i didnt get the money
that pic is the new helix also it goes have a slight difference in the bar thickness
mine, on the other hand, is a 2008 helix it has thicker roll bars
i dont know why they changed the size....

it has rear disc breaks(no fronts) they are awesome you can go from 40 to 10 in like 3-4 secs (for a guesslol) but the steering is chain steering it works WAY better than rack and pinion
it makes for smooth unchoppy turns id reccommend it

rack and pinion is actually better then both chain and linkage, rack and pinion is what many real cars actually use, it allows for almost 0 bump back to the steering wheel. that sucks it has no front brakes, i do allot of climbing and articulation riding and need both front wheels to have brakes. your thinking of linkage steering when you say that chain is way better, like what most crappy go carts have.

rack and pinion is as close to power steering as you will find as far as bump back feel. the coolster does have rack and pinion and front disk brakes, that was a huge selling point for me. i just wish it was lighter lol

yeah you do have a good point but i do a lot of drifting and flat track so its not a main requirement for front brakes lol. but its also safer because its a 1 seater. thats why im welding a few really thick bars to help this is a concept coolster its coming some time in 2010 and you can see a huge difference. but still vert thick bars.
