Default I thought I GRENADED my HH GTS 250!!

Wife and I had our buggies out for the first real trip, ever! I was pretty damn frustrated but happy to say what I thought was a blown engine turned out to be a bush fix gone wrong.

First we overheated the wife's Kandi Spyder 250, thermostat switch failed and rad fan didn't kick on, easy fix!

Then it was my turn, blew out the timing inspection plug out, along with most of the oil. Thankfully it happened in staging so I just topped up the oil and figured I better put something in the plug to keep out moisture, dust etc. I found a 5/8th NPT tubing and cap in my tool box. Threads close enough not to damage but not quite to seal real good. So I loaded it up with some gasket maker and stuck my home made fix in. Parked my butt in front of the fire with a beer to give it time to set up.

Okay, after a few hours figured it start it up and put it on the trailer. I knew the plug wouldn't hold up and would vibrate out or leak badly and decided not to drive it. Had friends out to the campsite so we were occupied.

Buggy didn't turn over, just heard the solenoid clicking......

Was damn frustrated, but tore into the motor once I got home. Long story short...The temporary plug I put in was about a 1000th of an inch longer than proper plug. This bound against the flywheel effectively "seizing the engine"

Boy was I relieved!!!!!

Got lucky. I will probably freak out when something happens to my hammerhead. What all do you have done to yours and what jetting are you running?

I've got the big bore, UNI, performance exhaust, Dr Pulley (yellow spring and 17 g sliders) CDI, Engrigo head and cam with the stock carb. Currently running a 132 main jet (3000' elevation) and I think its a 40 pilot jet, can't remember now!

I took it up to about 5000' and it still ran well.

Oh hell yah Bear! It was a good outing all around. Great area, random camping and lots of off roaders. The trails weren't in good shape, lots of run off and snow in the area still. But that didn't keep us from having fun!
