Default help I think screwed up!

I bought a new cone air filter for my gy6 150cc baja dune

I put it on and left the crankcase breather dangling. I then let a friend of the family take it for a few days. When it came back they said it kept spitting oil out the hose and they kept filling oil to use it instead of stopping. At some point they say it died and thats when it came home.

What do you think and what do I now need to do?

Did you check the oil level? Was it too high or low maybe?

I haven't had the chance to start it and didn't want to. They claim it pumped out all the oil to dry in under 30 minutes through the crankcase breather.

Am I right to think piston rings?

Not positive if your motor has a low oil shutoff but if so it may be that simple

if the hose is long enough to hang below the oil level or even below where it enters the engine, it may have begun siphoning the oil out. I'd check the level, top it up or drain it down if necessary and give it a try. I'd also pull the hose off and flush it clean so it doesn't foul it.
