Default Rear Swing Arm Has Two Bolt Locations?

I am wondering if anyone knows why on most buggies there are two separate holes on the lower of the buggy frame where the lower swing arm attaches.

Mine is attached to the upper hole. Can the swing arm attach to the lower hole that is about 2 inches below and if so does it allow the suspension to still function properly?

It seems that if attached to the lower hole, it would give the body a 2" lift.

I might be wrong. But your shocks will determine the lift. If have larger shocks, lowers back end, giving more lift. But will also put engine at an angle. If you lower front swing arm. Don't think give you more lift. But will lvl out the engine. And give different pitch the shocks are working on. My thoughts on it. Could be another reason.

Is there an issue if the engine is not level by lowering to the lower hole?

Most ppl, that do raise there back end, the engine will pitch upwards. Just nature of the beast. Not sure if they are issues, but adjustments need to be made. Carb will more then likely follow pitch of the engine. So therefor, depending on how much the engine angles up, might need to adjust the float in the carb, so don't over flow when engine not running.
Then of course is the oil level on dipstick. wont get a correct reading. When checking oil, or changing it. Will need to slope the buggy, so engine is level. I use a ditch, or put the back tire on back of my trailer. Use level app, on my phone to check how level it is. It's very close if put on back of my trailer.
Again, not sure why 2nd hole. maybe another reason. So if it's in the top hole, is it not running right? Does it ride funny? Or just wondering what it is for? If it's not broken, don't try to fix it.

It runs fine. I could tell thought that the lower hole has been used before.

My biggest reason is ground clearance. I would like to gain some clearance for my riding area. Seemed the easiest would be to move to the bottom hole.

Visually I'm trying to see it. I really cant say.
maybe it will give you more, guess depends on how shocks are mounted. Best way to know is try it. Just make sure your cables and ect. are long enough. .
But best way to get more clearance is long shocks, or larger tires. And by rights, only really way to get more clearance, is larger tires. With larger shocks, or moving the swing arm down. Your axle and tires stay the same. Your axle will be your lowest clear stop, no matter what you change, unless get it higher, with larger tires. So by rights, all your doing is changing your center of gravity.
When I changed my mounts with the new shocks I got, I tried to keep rear end low as possible. Or close as possible to match the front. Bringing up the back end right before swing arm, does really nothing but change the height at which your driving. Not ground clearance. Only reason I could see for that, would maybe be if your doing a lot of water, or river running. Or maybe step sharp mounds or hills. Which might be what you want. But will affect how easy it is to roller over. But some ppl do like a higher (Body) clearance. Give and take on both sides.

I moved mine when I first got it and it ran fine.

I also looked into dropping the rear axle mounts on the swingarm. Mine is built out of rectangle tube 1 inch by 2 inch if I recall. I was gonna get 2 pieces of that about 1 foot long and stack it on the bottom of the swingarm where the factory bearing supports was attached. Then weld the supports to those 2 inches lower. Need a longer chain but the factory engine angle would remain the same.

Two maybe 3 inches would be all I would try using that method. Anything more than that I think you would have to add too much weight bracing it all up to keep it from folding over from the lateral force of turning.

Interesting. So using the bottom hole, did it raise the body up again?

Did it change the pitch of the engine?

It raised it maybe 3/4 - 1 inch with the stock shocks. If I was to get longer shocks I might see more.

I'm gonna say yes but not enough to say it was noticeable.

Frankly try it if you want but I wouldn't go through the trouble just to do that alone. I had my swingarm off welding some cracks so I figured I'd try it.

Well I am going to put new shocks on. Not sure if I can put longer ones or if I need to stay with the same length. However, even 1" can be good because there are times that 1" would have been the difference in ruts.

The lower holes are where the seatbelts used to be bolted but you can mount the swing arm there and gain a little lift.

I just moved mine to see if i would get more clearance for my carb intake hose (It did not help that issue) but it does raise rear a hair and pulls it in Inch or to as well.

Just keep eye on carb. If it starts leaking, while sitting over night, then need to adjust the float.

Today I moved it to the lower holes. However, it did not move the actual main body up nor down, same level.

You may need longer shocks....When i did it on my crossfire 150 it had 2 sets of lower shock mounts on the swing arm and i moved them to the front holes.

Does yours happen to have dog bone links from the top of the swingarm to the bottom of the rack?

Thats most likley why it didnt pick yours up....It probaly just pointed the nose of the swing arm down a tad.

Beef,

So why do they have that hole spot in the first place if it really doesn't do much?

Most likely a universal bracket they pick up cheap and use it for many different things.

Has a separate seat belt bracket. It looks like a swing arm mount though.

I have two buggies that are identical. I have put the swing arm in the lower holes on one and left the other with them up. I will ride them and see if I can see any differences.
