Unhappy Need help figure out what I have ?

I'm new to this fourm. We've got a older Yerfdog that my grandson's grew up driving. Couple years ago some friends bought a new buggy and have left it here after they burned up the starter when the battery fell out and shorted against the frame melting the battery cables and toasting the starter.
What I do know : Tag on frame says : Shanghai GOKA sportsmotor
DOM : 2008 08
GK250 2E
I need to find a starter for sure, but am also looking for any further info. The website for GOKA isint much help. Any help would be great !!
THANKS

Thanks guys. I've googled it and found some of the same info. My problem is the guys who bought this thing and left it here took the starter with them and I've decided to get it running since it seems like they have given up on it. As spring starts I plan on getting it going and first thing is I know I have to find a starter, so I've been trying to just figure out what motor I have other than the 250 size. I've found several starters on line, but without the original or any paper work I'll be quessing which starter to buy.

be careful dumping money into it if it technically isn't yours. that said, look around on the engine for an ID plate and engine number. with that you should be able to figure out exactly what brand engine it is and go from there.

Thats been the reason I havent touched it till now. After 2 years my storage bill has added up... plus I figure as long as I cab get it running pretty cheap I wont be out to much. I'm gonna get it into the garage so I can find the engine info so I can see what starter and how much cash.

Goka makes the Roketas and they're likely the most similar brand to those labeled with Goka. That's why i posted the link, he should be able to find just about the exact same buggy on that page. The engine tag should really tell him what he's got/needs though.

If storage on it is something you have paid for, you should be able to obtain ownership by contacting your county clerk and finding out the due process for getting a lien on it for unpaid bills. you'll likely have to make contact with the owners (or show proof of attempting to with no response), wait "X" number of days and then claim ownership if the buggy's portion of the storage bill isn't paid

Default Thanks for input..still figuring it out

The ownership thing isint that big a deal. It's been at my place over 3 years and worse case I get it running and they pay me for the parts and take it with them...if i ever hear from them again. But, thats doubtful.

I'll be better able to search the engine for a tag once I get it in the garage.
I did find a stamped 172MM on the case. So far only tag is on the frame. It does look like one of the Roketas.

Thanks again for all the info and help, I'm sure I'm just getting started with the questions.

A search for 172mm brings up both the cf-250 and the cn-250, Both gy6 250cc engines. I would think that a search for cf or cn-250 starter would get you what you need. I think the only difference in these is one has a hi/lo forward gearing (cf-250 I think) and the other has only one speed forward gearing (cn-250 I think) . Not sure if parts like starter are compatible. And welcome to the site.

Just googled 172mm because you said that's what you saw on the engine. You will need to determine whether you have a hi and low on your shifter or just forward and reverse to determine which you have. However it is possible the starter may be the same. Just google cf-250 starter or cn-250 starter depending on what you have.

Try this: A search for starters revealed the same starter for both.

That does look like a roketa and most likelyhas the cn-250 engine. I do stock the starter. If you can post a pic of the engine just to make sure of what you have.
