New guy in Allentown PA
Hey guys, just saying hi. I will most likely just be lurking here for a while. Moved into our current house almost 2 years ago. Finally getting things organized. Our single car garage has become a tool shed of sorts. I decided I wanted to turn it into a shed/work shop as I have all kinds of projects I have always wanted to build. The wife ok'ed it as long as the projects stay in the garage, and don't spread to inside the house. I decided the first thing I wanted to do was build a go kart. I have a riding lawn mower and I get a kick out of riding it around my yard. However I don't want to put extra wear and tear on it just joy riding so I figured a go kart was the way to go. Always wanted to build one, and if its a project its easier to convince the wife its a good idea. However I decided I wanted to buy one to play around with first and practice working/welding on before I started one from scratch. Then I discovered the Fox Carbide buggy while doing research.
And that's pretty much why I am here now. To learn and get more info on buggys.

Welcome aboard metal. So did you pick up a carbide? used one's are pretty scarce around here. (I'm over in Easton) Unless you have a couple acres, get ready for the wife to start giving you grief for tearing up the yard!

There have been a few available around Scranton area. $800 decent shape, $700 pretty beat shape. $1500 garage kept and in new shape, and one that is up for trade.
Sadly I have been unable to take advantage of any of them. I need to sell my Pinball machine to have the money for such a purchase, and I really won't be able to sell it till May. I don't really plan to buy the Carbide to putt around the yard in. I would like to get one for messing around with and learning on, and eventually trail ride with. Plus I have some other crazy ideas I may try. Still plan to build a go kart from scratch for something to ride around the yard in. Thinking of building a Trax II from Edge for that.

The Trax II is a good looking kart, but if you start with suspension, you won't want to go back to solid frame. There are some plans out there with simple a-arm type suspension that work well for light to medium terrain.

I understand what you are saying but for me the Trax II fits the needs of what I am looking for in a building project. It's small, looks good, not complex in design. Plus like said, something to putt around in the yard. Plus it's something I can let my son learn to drive in once he is old enough. My mower doesn't have a suspension and I find it comfortable enough for around the yard. Plus building a go kart is more about the build then the diving for me.
Also I never intended to buy a buggy, but stumbled upon the Carbide and fell in love. I plan for that one to take trail riding and such, not to use in my yard.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I will let you know once I have an actual budget and can do some serious shopping. Probably won't be till after the holidays.
Although I did come close to making a trade. My pinball machine for a BMS buggy.

BMS has gained a mixed bag of reviews ranging from absolutely terrible to decent buggy. I do know their customer service is considered one of the worst in the industry.

Welcome to the forum. Although your not quite there yet, get ready for the addiction. It would be best if you get 2, one for the wife. When she gets into it , it becomes easier to lobby her for upgrades.LOL
