Carbide Battery

So after a week of moderate use with my son's new carbide the battery seemed to have died. I noticed earlier today that after a short ride and pulling in the drive way the cart shut off by itself. We it cranked up afterwards fine and he continue to ride. So this evening he was riding and the cart shut off like it was out of gas. When i got to him and tried to start the carbide....nada, nothing, dim lights and gauge. I have had the battery on trickle charge for the last couple hours and it starts fine now. So my first question is does the ASW machines have a charging system like an alternator that keeps the battery charged when running? Second has anyone else had a similar problem with the factory battery? Third where can i get a replacement? I was thinking maybe a standard motorcycle battery at walmart.

fhey do sell replacements at walmart. they are about 60 bucks. i need to buy a new one for my helix.

same happened to me so i put an ever-start in that baby and every thing was fine

You can get a replacement at walmart or lowes or something. But that's kind of weird. I've had my Carbide for about four months and I haven't touched the battery.

Evan, thanks i seem to remember seeing something on here about someone having battery issues from a new ASW machine. Josh, yes it kinda threw me for a loop as well. I added a set of additional light (55 watts) and wondered if the additional draw on the battery was too much for the charging system to keep up with. On a better note I am expecting our first set of mods to arrive in the mail tomorrow (Uni filter with intake tube and a 130 Jet, 12 gram slider weights, 1500 rpm main spring and a replacement oil filter so we can change out the break-in oil). I help a friend of mine do similar mods to a kinroad 150cc machine a couple nights ago and it was incredible the difference they made for much better performance. We'll see how the battery works out tomorrow, maybe a very cold ride here in NC with a high of 35 and 20+ mph winds expected.

The biggest problem is really the cheap china battery. A Carbide uses a BS-12 series which they sell at walmart for $60. The China batteries just aren't made for longevity.

the factory supplied batteries are really cheap and undependable. the walmart battery is a good replacement and cheaper too. If I know I won't be using the buggy for a while, I hook up a battery tender. The gy6 has a stator that supplies power for spark and a rectifier to recharge the battery. The problem is,the stator supplies approx 6amps total, with approx. 2 amps for battery charging. its really slow! 55 watt lights use battery power faster than the stator can supply. In a stock 6 pole stator, there is only enough amp reserve to run two 35 watt lights. If you need more light, you have two choices. The easiest is to upgrade the lights with a larger, more reflective housing and use 35 watt bulbs. Or replace the system with a 8 pole stator and rectifier that will power 55 watt lights without killing the battery.

I replaced the two 35w lights that came with mine with two 55w halogens and I still haven't had any battery problems.

I put the $35 everstart from Walmart in all of mine and have not had any problems with them. Ckau knows what he is talking about concerning the lighting issues.
