Default Clutch/reverse questions??

Sup guys -

so I've been trying to educate myself on variatorsome and clutchsee. I have a trailmaster 150...its new, so I believe it's the gy6 engine. I've noticed if we try and shift it into forward or reverse and if there is any , I mean a tad of elevated rpm you here the gears slipping...so I've explained to my son it has to be completely dialed of rams. now, I've noticed even if it is , occasionally it'll slip. is it because the clutch is junk, should I invest in a good one along with a good variator?

hope I'm on the right track here lol, am I making sense?

Problem will be in either the shift cable out of adjustment, too high idle, clutch is engaged all the time or transmission problem.
