Default Idling issues

Well i just installed my uni, exhaust, head, camshaft, and 130 jet. now i am having idling issues. if i disconnect the fuel line, it seems to start up and run, but i need to feed it some throttle to start. i fixed my float, as that was an issue. the pin for the float somehow came up missing, so i made a makeshift pin out of a finishing nail. Now it still seems to be having the same issue, except it doesnt pour the excess fuel out of the top of the carb. When i reconnect the fuel line, i can get it to start after feeding it a little throttle, but it wants to die out. and after a few minutes it just starts running crappy.

Have you tried adjusting the idle mixture screw?

You may have to increase the pilot jet with the mods done now.

Well i adjusted the idle mix screw, but no luck. It just doesn't want to start and stay on without feeding it some gas. I dunno, im not a mechanic. I guess i will call tom again today and get his input. Also i stepped up to a 130 jet with all the mods. Is this a little high? I believe the stock jet said 111 or 114 on it.

That's main jet for WOT.

Sounds like you're dealing with pilot jet issues. What do you have in there now? Stock was 35 I believe. Mine worked best with a 38.5 pilot.

Easiest way to adjust idle mix screw is to raise the RPM by turning the idle speed screw to around 1150-1200 RPM (just below clutch engagement) And turn the screw in or out 1/4 turn at a time untill you get the maximum SUSTAINED RPM.

HINT: blip the throttle a couple times between adjustments and let the RPM "settle in" before you adjust again. This allows the new setting to take effect. If you're like 3 turns OUT, go to the next size jet up. If you are arround 1 turn OUT, go to the next jet smaller.

This usually works pretty well.

Hey xlint89 how rare is it to need to upsize the pilot jet. All I've done to my gy6 b series is redneck intake with 4 inch inlet pod filter, opened up the exhaust to about 1.25-1.50 inch outlet. Changed the cvt over to koso hi performance. But I have to back my fuel/air mix screw out 4-5 turns to get it to allow me to accelerate, it will idle fine at 1.5-2 turns out but give it gas and it dies.

Are you backed out 4 -5 FULL turns, or half a turn? If you are 4 FULL turns out, then i would go DOWN 1 jet.

Turning the screw OUT should allow more air in, thus leaning out the mix.

Ideally you want to be close to 2 full turns out.


Have you checked to see if yiou have an adjustable needle? If so, try moving the E clip up to lean out the mix, and down to richen it up.

You know your right. I was looking at it backwards. Maybe I'll try that. My issue didn't start till I cleaned my carb and like a d.a. I cleaned the pilot jet with a torch tip cleaner. Do you happen to know what size stock is, I'll replace it with a new stock size and see what happens. Thanks for the insight friend.
