Dry spray lube
Has anyone used anything else on their torque converters other than the coment spray?
I've heard this stuff mentioned before, and I already have some at home for my bike chain, they're both dry spray lubes and I'd rather not spend $30 on a can of lube I don't need. http://www2.dupont.com/Consumer_Lubr...s/dryfilm.html I guess it's probably worth a shot? Also, what should I clean the parts with when I take them apart? Brake cleaner/carb cleaner, etc? |

I went ahead and spent the money on the good stuff. I haven't tried the other. I clean the parts with a wire wheel of some kind and it will take all of that build-up off.

Rick, where did you find your Comet lube? I have tried to order a can several times from various places and nobody seems to have any left.

I've used the Blaster dry lube for years and no problems.Never replaced a clutch and only had 1 broken spring in 5 years. Like Buggymaster says clean all the gray/black residue with a wire brush (make it shine) then spray with the dry lube. I spray about 3 coats and let them dry. I service my clutches about every 20 hours or so, if it's really being abused I service it as soon as it skips or grabs funny. I have 4 clutches on Tecumseh's 6.5 hp with well over 500 hours and still going strong.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I think I'll give it a shot to see how it works.
Is brake/carb cleaner fine for the parts that need to be cleaned? |

rarerat, honestly, I don't remember. I ordered it off of one of the go kart parts places on line. I've had it for about a year and a half and still have plenty left.
Brake cleaner or carb cleaner will work but honestly, I just use a wire wheel on a drill and it strips it clean. |

I may tackle that this weekend if I get a chance. I can't imagine it'll make it any worse |
