clutch help needed

New to these boards and the world of karting. There is some great info here but i can't find the answer i am looking for.

I just bought 2 karts that have a comet 30 series asymmetric torque converter.

I need a new drive set up on both Karts. The pulley on the jack shaft.

My question is this. I really don't want to put 200 into each kart for a whole new set up. Is there a cheaper way to go. Maybe changing it over to chain to chain driven instead of belt to chain driven.

Please help i am lost.

They are likely actually 30 series clutches. Some of them just say 20 on them and are misread as being a 20 series. Generally speaking if the machine came with a torque converter setup, it was done for a reason and going to a straight clutch would likley burn clutches up quickly. A lot of the times you can take the torque converters apart and clean then really well, usually with a wire brush, and you can get by with them. A lot of them that I have seen will have the little brass bushing that sits on the drive clutch missing. If they are small go karts with the smaller wheels you may be able to get by with a straight clutch setup but you may lose your off roading capabilities.

I will try to get pictures tomorrow. The 1 cart doesn't have the driven clutch on it....somebody just put a v pulley on it, doesn't do to good to say the least.

Is there a good place to find a good priced used driven clutch?

Hate to spend a 100 on just the 1 part.

Can't say I've ever seen a used driven for sale outside of this forum.Where do you live?

ok here are some pictures. These pictures are of the bent and messed up driven clutch. Everything seems to move okay on it. the rubber pads seem fine, it is just the part that is bent.

this is the 2 karts i bought yesterday. i paid $300.00 for the pair. everything seems to work just these clutch issues.

Did i pay to much?

Got to Sycpowersports.com and look through what he has. Much cheaper options than $100

In my opinion you need 2 drivens.The one one the black kart has something seriously wrong with it-the warped pulley is because something is damaged at the shaft.The clutch on the black one is missing the brass bushing,you need to take the bell cover off and see if the internals are still good (springs,pins,surface on the inside of bell cover needs to be smooth.You got your money's worth but your stuck with the corrective work from little to no maintenance on the CVT system.Since these are single seaters you could change over to a standard friction clutch straight to the axle sprocket,not sure how fast they'd be, but do-able.

i will get every thing tore apart.... i believe i will be getting 2 driven. best i could find is like $75.00 each.

Any other opinions?

Let's see what the insides of the clutches look like. $75. a piece for driven unit doesn't sound too bad-what size are they-6" or 7"? 6" will give you more speed,7" more torque.

6"....found it on ebay....haven't looked into it to much yet. probably a Chinese unit though.
