Default charging questions

Hey I have some questions on the charging system on my buggy.I added extra lights on my baja reaction. When there not in use everything is fine but if i turn them on they drain my battery. The voltage with them on at idle is around 12.17 so do i have a weak charging system and is there anything I can do to fix this????

It drains it with the stock lights off. I added the new ones because the stock ones are dim

Go get a BS12 battery. We used to have the same problem on the Helix. In fact, the draw was enough that you'd hear the idle dip a little bit when you'd turn the lights on. Put a BS12 in it and that supplied the amperage it was looking for and have had no troubles since. The 12 is the same size as your 9 but a little taller. $60 at walmart.

thats 4.5833 amps per bulb on the 55 watts, vs 2.916 amps on the 35 watt. the 6 pole sttors dont put out enough amperage to run the lights and charge the battery. an 8 pole is better which you might have in there already. adding a bigger battery will help, just keep an eye on how its charging

well I think I solved my charging problems for now what i ended up doing was i made a box in the dash to mount switches because i had no way of turning off my factory headlights or my taillights. the box has four switches one for the factory headlights factory brake light the new fog lights and new reverse lights also i changed everything but the factory headlights over to led lights and i plan on changing my headlights back to 35w. the only bad thing about all of this is the led's are nowhere near as bright as the old ones but it will work for now

Man post pics of that. The 265 is the machine that proceeded the 150cc buggy that we have available now. I don't see them very often.

I quit buying the $40.+ small batteries and found a place to mount a lawnmower battery that has 200+ cranking amps and only costs $20. - never looked back or ran out of juice with 55 watt lamps.

the trick to do without killing the battery is to use 55 watt housing or a good housing with high reflective power then subsitute in a 35 wat bulb. you won't notice that much difference and still be within the amp output of the stator.

35w bulbs are the way to go in a 55w housing- any setup you use 55w bulbs in a bigger
battery will handle it but only if you can turn off lights at times to recharge it. or plan on
recharging w/charger unless you go to a bigger stator

I put two 55 watt lights on mine with two small LCD tail lights. I seperated my day time running lights and my bright night lights with seperate switches. So I run with one set or the other on not both at the same time. I put a volt meter on my dash to monitor the voltage output. The two 55 watt bulbs seem to draw a little less than my day time running lights???? Don't know why. If I run with both sets on, the stator can just barely keep up. Thats too hard on the stator so I only run with one set or the other on. My brake light works no matter what set of lights I have on. I find the volt meter really handy to keep a check on your battery voltage and stator chargeing rate. I think I have a B9 battery(how do you tell). I am going to keep it till starts giving me problems then I think I will build a bigger battery box and put in a decent size battery. Good luck
