Trailmaster 150 XRX
I have a TM 150 XRX I got from a relative. I have replaced the carb, fuel lines, petcock, fuel filter, spark plug, cdi, relay, and ignition coil. I got it to run once after replacing the carb and it wouldn’t stay running if you let off the accelerator. I’m at a loss as to what the issue could be. It sounds like it wants to start but never does. It won’t work with ether/starting fluid either. Any help is welcome!

The fact that it wont start with starter fluid, makes me think you either have no spark or no compression.

I’m new to the buggy world. How do you check compression?

To do it properly you need a compression gauge. Most auto parts store let you borrow tools with a refundable deposit. Does it have spark?

I did a test by removing the spark plug and grounding it and there was no spark

Got a fully charged battery? A low battery can sometimes turn the engine over, but not have enough juice for the ignition system.

I would personally start checking to see that there is power where it's supposed to be. Check the ignition switch to make sure it's powering up what it's supposed to.
Make sure your ground strap, and all connections for that matter, are making good contact and aren't corroded internally. There are procedures to check the coil and the cdi, but I don't remember how..lol |
