my frankenbuggy
Hello all! I have been lurking on the sight for a while and decided to share my latest project. I will add some pics asap as I know pics are where its at.
I started with a baja 65, which is a small 2 seater with a 6.5 engine. It had crappy front suspension but a neat independant rear end. I originally installed a 200 cc atv motor, but then a ninja 250 motor came my way with just 1,800 miles on it. So now im installing that in its place. I widened a yamaha blaster front end and then shortened a hyundai steering rack. I used blaster front shocks and air shocks in the rear. Im about halfway done and cant wait to drive it. I got the full wiring harness and cooling system from the ninja. Just need to find the carbs. I will add pics soon. Any input would be great. |

Well my wife finally figure out the pics. Dont mind my shop. Its a 10x20 storage locker. The owner lets us work there and supplies the power.

The rear tires will be replaced with quad tires. The paddles wont work in the woods where we ride. Still lots to do. Next is finishing the engine mounts, building the chain tensioner, build mounts for radiator, then find some carbs and hear it run.

I didn't want to sound like a naysayer so I kept my keyboard silent..lol
I was a little worried about the IRS being strong enough, and the suspension being good enough. |

Thanks guys, i have used the blaster front suspension before and loved it. Im going to beef up the irs, and for the type of riding we do I think it will work fine. If not, i rebuild it. Its all trial and error for me. I agree the motor should be good, 30 horse geared low should be fun. I will get more pics up soon. Last night i built the front end and started making some body panels.

so am i seeing that rear end correctly? it looks like half an axle attached w/ a clevis to a center spool. then a trailing arm attached somehow to the end of the axle close to the wheel. i assume by the pics that the axle is solid from end to end? can't tell how the trailing arm is attached to the axle from the pics though. is it with a regular bearing or is there some king of heim joint happening back there. by the looks the rear wheels will have all kinds of camber change at every point in movement. as far as what i can see from the trailing arms they are very one dimensional. basically a piece of tubing. i dont see any crossmembers. this might be a big problem with bending especially when a shock gets mounted somewhere in the middle of that. if i'm seeing/not seeing something wrong/right let me know.
