Default Father buying first go cart for son

Hey guys, I found this forum while looking for info about go carts and buggies. With Christmas approaching I am looking to pick up a used go cart for my 7 year old son. I have found several to choose from on craigslist, so I may have several questions about which models would be the best or some how to advice. I must admit that I know nothing about go carts, but I don't mind wrenching and getting my hands dirty.

Thanks,

Mike

Is he a big kid or a little kid? the mini buggies are great but you'd have to size accordingly.

I found a 50cc American Sportworks Silver Streak for sale which I think would be a good size for a seven year old. From the pictures it looks to be in good shape. Are there any major known issues with this model.

Welcome to the forum Mike good to have you, make sure you get a buggy that can "grow" with him as he does and his skills improve.

Yeah, i'm with bear on this one.

I bought my 7 and 10 year old nephews a Yerf Dog 3203 go kart.

It has an adjustable seat. I added blocks to the pedals so they can reach, and I dialed the throttle stop back so it's max speed right now is 15 MPH.

Now as they grow, the pedals will come off and the limiter can be removed as their father sees fit.

Just an FYI: I got it up to 32 MPH with me in it. So that shows you just how much you can "grow".
