subaru eh65 chuckwagon engine
got a asw utv with the 650cc robin/subaru engine. runs like crap since day 1. they sent me a new carb and made minor improvemnet. will backfire when i tromp on the gas. middle range wants to surge up and down when holding steady throttle . took the cover off adj screw and not much differnce? any others have this engine?

From what you describe, it sounds like an intake leak

runs great wide open. idles ok. new carb helped the middle range problem. more of a drop in rpm then a surge. then comes back up then drops again. that problem somewhat better. plugs look good. gonna change them out anyways now pretty much the backfire when i tromp the throttle. been wrenching small engines for years , this got me stumped/

ill check into that. only pops when i hit the gas hard . if i ease into it not so bad, full throttle runs good and good power. no idle issues either. been like this since day one.
