Default How fast does a Talon 150cc run?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My son has a 2004 Talon 150cc and it is not running right, we just bought it last week and it would Idle but not accelerate. I cleaned out the carb and put in a new plug. It now runs if you press the gas and start it. It will not idle at all. While running at full throttle it brakes up and pops. It will only run 33 mph topped out. I dont thkn it has every had anything maintaned on it. The electrical box has wires every where in it with butt connectors. I am going to clean that mess up as soon as someone post a picture of theres so I can see what has been changes. Do you all think I need to adjust the vlaves? it is kind of tight to get to but I will try if it is needed.

thanks for the help.

I'd be checking the fuel enrichment valve (choke) and verify it's wired correctly & working (a bad valve can have the needle partially open).Verify that a good ground exists in the box and connected to the engine. A valve adjustment could make it easier to start!!!And might be causing the erratic full throttle- I'd try-it means eliminating something that doesn't cost anything but your time and aggravation. Your 33mph isn't that far off it's top speed!

I have a new carb ordered for it and it comes in today. I will also adjust the valves while I am at it.

Well it is running. Runs and idles good but boggs after running it wide open for about 1/4 mile. Maybe leaning out. I did not change the jets or open up the new carb as I did not want to mess with it. I will change the jets this week and see how it runs. But at least now it will run!!

Check your fuel cap to make sure the vent is venting. Your description sounds as if the cap may not be venting which will slow the rate of fuel to carb, also check the float level if cap is venting.

The cap is venting as some gas leaked out of the top. Do you know what air filter I need for the stock box?

Uni air filters or any high flow that will fit opens up greatly the air flow , wich you will want to do anyway if you plan to re jet it in the future, the stock box is way to restrictive !!! Also never underistimate the power gain of high end plugs and good fuel !
I am lucky to have 3 places i can buy non-ethinal fuel close by that is 91 to 93 octane , only thing that goes in my buggies and lawn eguipment, I highly recommend finding a local sorce ! well worth it in the long run.

tom's referring to the fuel. pure-gas.org lists the stations in all the states that sell non-ethanol blended gas.
