Default comet 40 torque converter

I have a Brister go cart with a 13 hp Tecumseh and a comet 40 torque converter with a 203788a comet belt. According to mfg supply that is the correct belt for this driver, driven setup. My problem is that my driver will allow the roller cams to roll off track and then the torque converter will not retract and allow the cart to stop without wearing down the belt or stalling the cart. I replaced the driver because I thought it was just worn out with a brand new driver from Bullet Line. After about 4 to 5 hours of use on flat ground and in grass the new driver has now stopped retracting completely also. I have not opened the new one up because of warranty issues but could there be something else happening to cause both clutches to the same thing or do I have a defective driver? I do have a new belt with the new driver on the cart. I was told by the company I purchased it from that I need to lubricate it with graphite dry lube.
Any suggestions?

are you sure the driven and driven are a correct match to each other and not a mix of 30 and 40 series?
