If have to have a baseline to start at. Try your pilot jet at 2 turns out from bottom out and see if you can set the idle. You want it to be able to idle without having to use the main jet to do it. (If you have to crank the idle screw up so high that it is raising the needle to get fuel out of the main jet for idling purposes, that is not correct.)

So a question I have is will it idle under any conditions, and if so, what are the conditions?

I figure I'd also post in here as I have a similar issue with the Helix. I spend half the time out there with the kart trying to get the idle right. Right now the air mixture screw is only half a turn from completely closed...which probably isn't right but it seems to have the steadiest idle around there. What happens is the idle is not steady at all, it'll hold for about a second or two, then sputter down and struggle to keep running, then regain its idle and continue in this pattern. The idle is much like a roller coaster effect, so to speak. Perhaps it's the spark plug? Maybe the air lines need cleaned out? As with johnnyjaws I am at sea level in NY also.

Does it run fine under load and at wide open throttle? (i.e. is it just an idle problem?)

Put your stock pilot jet back in. It is very rare (unless doing really heavy mods) to have to do anything to the pilot jet other than clean it.

what are you calling a straight baffle
if you have no form of muffler you
get no back pressure at all
not a good thing you need a fmf
or procircuit type of exhaust at
least
