Default What exactly is a "mini buggy" ?

Just wondering what the generalization of a mini buggy would be, Yerfdog Manco, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think anything resembling a buggy, only smaler would fit the definition. From go-karts with single a-arms(yerfs and some mancos) all the way to custom built four wheel independent, 2 seater buggies with lord knows what engine installed would be included, as long as it is somewhat smaller than a full sized sand rail. Pretty generalized answer, I know, but there are so many makers out there, from manco, yerf dog, kinroad, hammerhead, all the way to even Arctic Cat making some buggies now(don't ask about the price) and even DIY Joe building his own brew of fun in his garage out back.

Oh ok, well that's a good answer and I appreciate that. I have a 3203 yerfdog that is a mini buggy. Thanks for clarifying that.

Hell yeah they are. I'm tied to what I wanna do with mine. I want more power and speed outta mine. I'm lookin at the HF 212 and have heard you can do a bunch of mods to make it more powerful. So do I upgrade the 212 and keep the TAV2 (comet 30) or get an 11HP engine and get a 40 series which in turn I'll be at close to a $700 price tag. I'm stumped , Haha

Personally, I like the smaller displacement engines with mods, the start up cost is much lower and don't have to buy another TAV. Plus, the hop up kits are pretty cheap now, like 10-12 hp for less than $300.

True, but if I hop up the 212 past 8hp then I gotta upgrade the TC, don't I ?
What I'm lookin for is to hit the high 40mph range and yet still have some good torque to power up steep hills without lugging the engine to much.

Hmm, not sure on that one. what are you upgrading from? You could do just a mild hop up, I'm told most that put the predator on in place of old worn out motors see it as an upgrade in itself. I don't know much about the TAV's, but I'm sure someone who does will chime in.

with the 3203, the clone motor and 30 series is the way to go. anything bigger that needs a 40 series is going to lead to the kart self destructing in the long run. You can get some decent power/upgrades out the the clones The investment to bulletproof the 3203 for hp levels beyond a modded clone 30 series isn't really worth the return unless you're an absolute yerf lunatic willing to dump a load of time and $s to create something that you could buy for a lot less money.

semantics/terminology ...used to get into a lot of this in the car mag biz ...

mini buggy--caged, full-suspension vehicle that is smaller than a dune buggy/sandrail and is intended to be off-road/all terrain capable.

yard kart, go kart --- i argue that the 3203 and other yerf, manco, carter etc single a-arm types fall into this category because their front suspensions aren't truly capable of surviving much off-road/all terrain use. I tried not to call my 3203 a mini buggy until it was able to withstand the all terrain use--and by then it was no longer a 3203 at all ...

Not too sure how worn out my Tecumseh 6.5 HP was. but it did 28 MPH with me driving it. Then I installed the HF Predator engine and got 31-32 MPH out of it with nothing done to it at all.

With a little port matching and a better exhaust and air filter, I'm sure that would wake that 212cc up a little bit more.
