Yerf Dog Update
Hey Yall Whats Happen'?,
Ok so heres whats happened since I bought the Dog home. Ordered some parts like and Installed HEAVY DUTY SPINDLES HEAVY DUTY BALL JOINTS NEW TIE ROD ENDS CDI UPGRADE HIGH OUTPUT IGNITION COIL 130 JET HOME BUILT UNI STYLE INTAKE WITH PRE FILTER I already changed the spark plug (auto lite) and the ENRICHMENT VALVE. So when I test drove it for the first time it was bogging down . So what I read here so far its either too rich too lean or air leaking . SO here are my questions ? How do I adjust the carb other than the idle ? What size battery the kid gave me a battery but it wass doa and I eventually want to put the lights back on and a tail light so I will be modifying that end latter on so what size battery now and for later ? Anyway thats where I am at right now all yalls help would be good . Sooner I get it running right the sooner I get some more modding done I figure gut the exhaust as soon as this is resolved. Then some better meats in the front with some 4 bolt flanges and newer rimms . Thanks

please tell me you got rid of the autolite plug and went to a ngk
with the motor running spray carb cleaner all over intake if it changes idle intake is leaking-the idle screw [if it has one]is under a little metal cover on the side of carb looks like a freeze plug drill a small hole put in a screw and pop out not all 150 carbs have a idle screw make a 12 amp battery work and if none of this works or solves your bogging go down to 125 jet or open your exhaust

I wish I could say problem solved.
I changed the plug and it still bogged down . Old plug was blackish. So needless to say I was going to order a 125 jet and try that . Or should I just gut the exhaust and see what that brings b4 oredering another jet? I think my carb has the idle screw on the side but I took carb off anyway and will rebuild it any way until I finish the exhaust . While I was at it I took the exhaust off to gut and removed the belt cover found the retaining nut for the exhaust mount laying in cover near the Rear Clutch. Glad I caught that one b4 sometinhg went where it shouldnt . Belt cover gasket tore while removing to check drive belt is standard RTV SILICONE OK here . Anyway all yalls help and advice and mods ROCK Thanks for that.

you can use rtv i would reuse as much of the old gasket as can
go ahead and gutt your exhaust -warm up completely run 300 yrds wide open shut off motor with gas still floored then pull plug will tell you if you need new jet dry white looking need bigger-wet or oily need smaller-brown cardboard colored just right

Hey Yall Whats Happen'?,
Ok so I gutted the exhaust and reinstalled the carb reinstalled exhaust and It was still bogging down when floored . This is with the buggies ass end up wheels off the ground. I started off with the mixing valve set out from bottomed out to 1-1/2 turns out and then started it . But it kept bogging down at full throttle . So the new 125 jet should be here tomorrow but we have Scouts tomorrow night so it will be a night out in the garage Friday night . So I thinkn' ifin this dont solve the issue then I think I will re carb . This carb has been taken apart a number of times be me and the kid b4 me and Maybe its just not right . I am also going to re check valves again as It isnt startin' all that easy . Any and all advice will be appreciated . thanks

Ok so I got sent home early no work,
so out to the garage and set the the idle mixture screw 1-1/2 turns out after all the way in . Push the button and ran still dying out when floored . So I stuck the fuel filter right in the yerf dog tank and it seemed to be getting more gas . Still waiting on the new jet(125). But while I am waiting I started looking at a 30mm carb and intake like you have Olderthan and you had to rejet that one as well so .... I am thinking (smell the smoke) If I do have to try another carb Because I mean its 6+ yrs old been tore down three times by me who knows how many before so I wont know till I try the 125 jet but there are quite the price difference between some sellers what gives? overhead?

Use the stock 24mm carb to get the motor running correctly. It's best to insure the rest of the motor is functioning correctly otherwise tuning that 30mm wil be a total nightmare! The 30 may be too much without a head and exhaust upgrade. It really doesn't matter how many times the carb has been torn down as long as it is assembled correctly. There's nothing in a carb to wear out except the needle/seat, vacum slide diaphram and gaskets. They can be totaly rebuilt with no problem. Do a search for "gy6 carburator rebuild kit". Most of the scooter sites carry them.

I'm thinking that 30 may just be too much for it as well. Certainly jetting it down should help but I am thinking even a 125 may be too big. Different carbs / engines respond differently to jetting. On most ASW machines, you can take a stock 114 jet and replace it with a 125 and hardly tell the difference. On brand B, you can bump it from a 108 to a 112 and be too much. Just going to take time and tweaking.

"GO FIGURE"-I'm running a new out of the box 32mm on my wifes gy6 (haven't opened it up to see what size stock jet it has) it's a stock Howhit engine and it runs great. That just goes to show that not all carbs are created equal. I have 3 other stock 24mm that have 114 jets in them and they all run different on this motor as I tried all 3! You can hear the engine running in the vid I posted "Yerfdog with a view". I did make the exhaust from an old 250 honda and that might be the difference.

Ok so I thinkin'
Is there a certain size in line fuel filter I should be using ? I purchased one from my local auto parts store it is about 2" long ,size of a quarter in diameter could this be too big ? Not keeping a constant load in the line . there is always some air in it all tho it almost fills up at wide open . Also I am doing all this jetting and adjusting with wheels off ground is that correct?

- some of these buggies have the 3/16" fuel line that needs to be up-graded to 1/4" to get a good fuel flow. Sounds like the type fuel filter you've bought should work fine (no,it's not too big) as it is probably 1/4". Testing with the wheels off the ground allows you to rev it up safely, but untill you drive it you won't have an accurate adjustment.

Hey Yall Whats Happen'?
Well I rechecked the valve clearances ,Spot On. So I was waiting for my jet and belt cover gasket still hoping that maybe I might be able to tweak it but NAHH. So I noticed the valve cover gasket was leaking .Great more money. (LOL) Ordered a new one . Jet and belt cover gasket came on monday but , I blew my knee FRIDAY nite out steping up into the bed of my p/u. 60CC of fluid taken out of my knee on monday. So I am down right now and doin alot of reading so when I can fix this DOG I will have my head on straight . My ducks in a row. So heres the ? I have read to start at 1-1/2 turns or is it 2-1/8 on the air fuel mixture after I install the 125 jet ? So then turning it in or out till it continues to idle up and then adjust the Hi speed idle? Then I will see if it bogs down when floored . If it doesnt (hoping)bog down I will go wide open for 300 yrds shut down while floored and pull plug to see what color I have . Thanks Yall

sorry about your knee-most of the valve cover gaskets are just a rubber ring it may be
you can remove clean & reinstall on a gy6 i start at 1 1/2 out on cn250 i start at 2 1/4 and adjust as needed

The gasket was flattened and pinched.
Installed 125 jet and tried it out on the jack stands. Still breaking up at the end of the pedal. Now do you think because of leaking valve cover gasket it was breaking up or is this jet to big as well. I am kinda get frustrated as we havent even really driven it yet . Turning the idle mixture screw didnt seem to make a big difference raised idle a bit not much tho. I dont think if it was in the ground and had a load on the buggie it would make a difference. Any thoughts ? Thanks Yall

The leak isn't causing it-it should still run smooth even with too large of jet with no-load- just sluggish. Is the air cleaner on it? Just another suggestion -When you changed jets did you verify that the holes in the side of the emultion tube were clear-as the needle valve rises it let's more fuel/air mixture in and if the highest set of holes are clogged this could be the problem.I know you've been thru the carb-but, one almost invisible speck of debris in any passage can cause this problem. I've cleaned and re-installed carb's to find that I unlodged something and had to re-clean again.

Air cleaner is on it and is 11" from inlet of carb to end of airfilter.
Will reclean carb diaphram isnt cracked just seems to have the bottom fall out from it . I didnt try with the air filter off this time .... Will try thata way next time out there .... ------->emultion tube ? where is that ? Thanks

It's part of the slow idle jet- the long brass tube the slide needle travels up and down in
