Default Carbide 150cc issue.

I just bought a used one. This thing starts right up, runs and sounds good but will only do about 13mph.

What should I look into?

Welcome- When you say it runs good -do you mean it throttles all the way up smoothly? If that's correct-look over the buggy for brakes dragging, wheel/axle bearing drag. If these check out I'd pull the CVT cover off and look at the belt, clutch and variator for signs of damage-if these items look normal I'd then pull the variator off to see if the rollers/sliders are wore out.
Posting some pic's might help us determine a cause too.

American Sport Works offered 2 different CDI's. If you go into the electrical box and look at the cdi there should still be numbers usually a tag. One CDI offered was a restricted one which will limit the speed to 15 to 20 mph for younger kids. You can also contact the previous owner and ask him if this was ordered with the restricted cdi. I would check this first before checking all on Metalstudmans previous post. If you do find the tag on the CDI ppost the numbers and I may be able to tell you which CDI you have.

Thanks for the quick responses.
I looked in the electrical box and didn't see any numbers. "just a quick peek"
I did notice 2 "vacuum lines" not connected. I will be checking them out this weekend.

What are these slider upgrades I see a few of you guys talking about?

Some will swear to slidders and others rollers. I suggest rollers in a stock variator. The lighter the roller or slidder more RPM is needed to up shift the cvt. When tunning the cvt with lighter rollers it is suggested you also replace the clutch torque spring.

Vacuum line. Where do they go.

It's not the same size as the pvc valve thing.

I believe the vacuum lines went to the original air flow system.

Here is a pic of the cdi

Also I took the carb apart and the jets looked clean.

The previous owner told me it would do 28mph in grass.
Also it has a uni filter on it.
