Default Finks Spiderbox Build

Picked up a Spiderbox a few months ago and am doing a 420cc swap on it. My kids have Go Karts and I wanted one that I could ride around in with my youngest daughter so her and I are building this one for us. Sons is a Streaker 8 and my oldest daughter has the Yerf-dog 3002. Cut up the Swing arm. The 150cc engine that came with it was is bad shape and the 420cc was on sale. Going to go with a heavier shock in the rear if anyone has suggestions on what a good shock for the rear is that will give me some extra lift would be awesome. I did a quick mockup of the engine yesterday and today I tore down the front bulkhead to get ready for all the new BDX parts that I ordered. Getting the works. going with a 22X11-8's in the rear and a 19x7-8's in the front. Also getting the Steering rack sent out for extra teeth cut into the rack from buggy depot.

This Go Karts for My 6 year old and me to keep up with my older 2 kids, She wants to paint it red with flames(we'll see how that goes). I'm just enjoying building something playing with the welder.

parts on order are:
Deluxe Flexpruf Steel Step-Down Axle - 1" to 3/4" (Standard) Size*: 42''
#40 Sprocket 60T with 1" bore
#40 Sprocket 9T with 3/4" bore
H93262W #40 Chain (66 Links) x2
401640 Master Link Pitch: #40 (401640) x2
400243 Sprocket / Brake Hub with 3-1/8" Bolt Pattern Bore Size: 1'' Bore
K260050 Galvanize 4 x 4 Wheel Hub (1" Bore) x2
HUB, FRONT WHEEL X2
A9037 Billet Aluminum Wheel Hub for Metric Rim 4x110mm rear hubs (1" Bore)
4x BDX HD Ball Joints
1x BDX HD Reinforced Front Bulkhead w/ 8" Bolts
2x BDX HD Reinforced Upper A-Arms 3rd-Gen

Cool build, wonder how that 420 will perform.

I have high hopes for it. Not looking to a speed machine. Pit vehicle for when we go to the track and something that can pull my dads mustang around the track during test and tunes. Just waiting on some warmer weather so I can start working in the garage again.

Thumbs up

Got back from vacation and cranked away all day on the swing arm while I'm waiting on parts from BDX and Gopowersports. Made some pretty good progress and am happy with the results so far. Can't wait to finish this one up because I think my next buggy is going to have a motorcycle engine. 250 ninja or a GS500. Having a blast fabricating this stuff

Got the swing arm 90% completed. Got new bearings from Gopowersports and 2 pillow bearings for supporting the middle of the axle under the engine. New brake master cylinder supply line are ready to install. New wheels and tires are arriving today. The Rears are only temporary because I'm going to a larger size, I got 18x9.5x8's rears and fronts of 19x8x7 new setup will be 22x10x10 and 19x8x7. Old new fronts will go on my daughters Kart. Which I'm still trying to upgrade to another spiderbox or hammerhead 150. really not a fan of the 3002 model.

I also posted up a weld picture because... Why not. I paid $78 for this welder from Harbor freight and for a complete welding noob I think I'm doing pretty dam good. Although Before my construction accident I welded plastic pipe so I'm not a complete noob.

Got the tires in today. The Rears are alot smaller than I thought they would be so I'm probably going to swap them on my sons go kart and get a set of 22x10x10s. Just waiting on the BDX front end stuff and I finish this puppy up. Going to weld in gussets and paint the frame this sunday.

The 420 performs amazing for the record. Got a ton done just needs paint now. Had it out in the mud and offroading. It's a blast.

Added Harnesses and welded in the brackets. Started slowly painting what I could before i have to tear it apart to get everything painted. Then I have to tear down the Hammerhead and strip and paint that.

Daughter is happy though

Nearly 6 months later it’s complete for my first build. Learning welding in the fly and not knowing anything about Go Karts I’d say I did alright. And am now addicted.

Very nice! How does this animal perform?
Does it have some low end torque?
What is your estimated top speed?
I'm re building a busted spiderbox and using the same gears and tires.

Lots of low end torque great for hills and mud. Flat out it does about 33-35mph. The upgraded steering rack makes it much more manageable for tighter turns.

That sound pretty good, I wouldnt want to go much faster than that. Where did. You get an upgraded steering rack? I was thinking of having some more grooves cut in at a machine shop.
