Trailmaster 150 XRS electrical
Hi all,
My Son's Trailmaster 150 XRS seems to be a bit shy on electrical powering capabilities. My son, and I, had installed a stereo, works fine, a horn, works fine, but a scanning led light doesn't work. But putting on my wife's car battery, works fine. Is a 12V light and I'm wondering if the electrical capabilities may be at their limit? If so, what can be done to boost the electrical capabilities, as with a coil or cdi? If asomething as a current booster is to be needed or a better coil, cdi or whatever it may be, please use lay terms when explaining what we need. Thanks bunches, |

11 pole stator maybe what you need. Have you checked to see what voltage it's putting out while running?

Multimeter the battery when running? The coil? The Stater? Thank you for your help...

Try disconnecting the radio and what not to see if it works then. It may not work while it is not running.

Just may be the size of the battery compared to the battery in the SUV. Frustrating nevertheless...

Is it hooked up AC or DC. Been discovering on mine that the LED lights don't like AC or getting power from harness out put for DC they flick on and off when turned on. Hooked them direct to battery with switch in line and they work fine. Don't know if it's an issue with power fluctuating but they work fine if fed from battery directly. Don't know if it will help just something I ran into.

Same as yours. From battery through switch. Switch good, tested fine. Would I get more current if I put in a performance coil and cdi? Just cannot figure this one out... Maybe a more powerful/better battery than the bare bones one that came with the kart when purchased?

Coil and CDI are ignition components ( juice / timing to spark plug ) won't effect battery, charging , reserve capacity .

He is right CDI and coil have no effect on the battery output.
If its direct to battery then the battery isn't up to snuff. A bigger battery is the way to go Just make sure you can secure it I believe the standard battery is a 7 amp hour which sadly is equivalent to a power wheels battery Look at the 235 CCA batteries at walmart for lawn tractors not expensive around $20 and much better than stock they are the U1 group size. upgrading to the 11 pole stator is also a good upgrade but wont help much if your battery wont store the extra juice. |

Bigger battery will not make a difference if your not able to charge it. Check the voltage of the battery while it's not running to see if it's good. Then check the voltage while it's running with no accessories(I.e. Lights, radio, etc.). Then check it while everything is running and on to see if you can support what you've added. It will make more wattage when riding, but idling can also drain the battery if it's not putting out enough. The battery is only used to start the buggy, the stator supplies the power to charge and run the accessories.
The 150 doesn't make a tremendous amount of electrical power to begin with. I had one that only had a 6 pole stator years ago that wasn't too great to add extra lights too. The 8 pole stator that most have now are much better, but you still have to watch what you add to the buggy. Led lights run off dc, if used with ac they will flicker and eventually burn out. The Trailmaster you have is dc as far I know.

There will also be some parasitic hp loss when using an 11 pole stator as well. But you'll gain the extra electrical power you're probably wanting to run the extra accessories you're wanting to add.

Hello again and thanks to all whom have shared their knowledge with the problems we have found with my son's kart. The Trailmaster 150 XRS has a rear light/brake light. The light works when the lights are turned but there is no brake light when the brake pedal is pressed, no matter how hard you push it, no brake light. Ok, I'm smart enough to check the bulb and it was/is fine, no broken element within. If you think the light simply has gone bad, can you or will you offer recommendations to any rear light/brake light that may be also plug&play with this kart?

The electrical on these are pretty taxed from the factory. The factory battery IMHO is undersized from the start. I would do as above suggested and go with a group U1 for a start and if that still doesn't keep up put a 11 pole stator on it.
For the brake light I agree it's most likely the brake switch on the master cylinder. It's easy to test. What tools do you have, a multi meter, test light? |

The element in the bulb is probably bad. You could check continuity through the switch to see if it is good or bad if you have a multimeter.

the trailmaster is DC wired so the CDI though it does not draw a lot, does depend on 12 volt power to function. if the battery does drain down due to not substantial recharging the buggy will start to run badly.
