i just did this mod to my 150 carbide. i didn't gut the exhaust and don't intend to. i want to keep it quiet for now.
i installed the uni with intake pipe and a 125 main jet (had a 114 in it)
runs great.

Yes you can, not sure you`ll get much of an increase in speed though.

A UNI and re-jet are always a good investment, but to increase speed heavier rollers or sliders and a 1000rpm main spring would do the job. Only problem is loosing low end. One or two inch taller rear tires alone will give more speed.

You can do it with having to open up the exaust. That was the first two mods I did. (UNI-jet) I didnt open the exaust until months later. When i 'gutted' my exaust it really didnt increase the noise much at all. Nothing like an open header like I was expecting. Just remember....More air(UNI) + more fuel(bigger jet) + less restriction on exaust(gutted) = more power. So if you add the UNI and go with a bigger jet, you really dont the full effect of the mods unless you open the exaust. These three kinda go hand in hand as 1 mod in my opinion. BUT you can do them individually.

Just increasing the diameter of the tail pipe alone will not effect the noise level much but will make it bteath much better. What I do is cut the tail pipe as close to muffler as possible, get a piece of 1/2" dowl rod to insert into remaining tail pipe. This allowes you to use a 1" hole saw creating a pilot to drill out old pipe at the same time enlarging the exit. Than you get a 2" piece of 1 1/4" OD pipe or conduit and weld to muffler. If you don't have access to a welder, just bring to a muffler shop to have it welded. This will give you a lower mellow tone with a very slight increase in noise level. This will help the engine breath much better.
