Default What do you think?

In searching for buggies I came across this one for sale in my town. I messaged the guy and apparently it's a Honda Oddesy (I know nothing of these buggies other than they were the first mainstream mini buggy but it was very dangerous so Honda abandoned them.) with a 1991 400cc Polaris liquid cooled 2 stroke engine. (I assume from a snowmobile.) The guy wants 500 bucks for it.
Here are a few pics:

What do you guys think of it?

Seems like a good deal. They do roll pretty easy so I would invest in wrist restraints as I've had a few friends break their arms back in the day trying to catch it when rolling.

is it ready to ride? On those 250cc machines, they don't have any suspension so be aware of that.

Welcome- It has all the plastic!!!! GO FOR IT
That's a good deal- I see the smoke in the pic so it runs.It does have front suspension (torsion bar like a VW) They do flip easy (very narrow) but that was part of the entertainment! It should be scary fast with that engine and a thrill to drive. I have one as well (currently not running) with a 440cc sled motor. It'll be the best $500. you'll spend- Side netting or arm restraints as EJ said ARE a must. (The rollcage doesn't appear factory and is missing critical supports)Overall these buggies are simple in design very easy to maintain and modify when and if it needs it.

I want to post a comment about Honda's production of these- We the public decided to start sueing everyone for our LACK or ability to follow manufacturers WARNINGS. The poor three-wheeler also fell victim due to this attitude- We as a group here understand the dangers that come with our hobby. I'm amazed that manufacturers can still produce toys for us to enjoy. How did all us older people survive without seatbelts, airbags, child safety seats/door locks, back-up/close proximity alarms and crumple zones?
That machine was made to make your heart race and grin till it hurt!!!!!

The top of that roll cage has been re-worked ( probably to allow for the sled motor ) , but the buggy looks pretty solid. The VIN and model should be stamped into the frame on the left rear side next to where the cage attaches, right behind where it looks like the belt is.

The early oddy`s (77-84) did have front suspension, but none in the rear. The front suspennsion is a J-arm setup with a shock. Think bent trailing arm with a shock attached to the arm. Also, they only had rear brakes, not sure what they did with the brakes on this one ???

That thing should fly with that 400cc 2-smoke on there. My pretty much stock 84 model does close to 50 mph.

One thing you might wanna think about, that is a retrofitted motor on that buggy, so finding parts and help with any engine problems specific to it may be hard. There are a few good Oddy sites out there, may post up these pics at www.minibuggy.net and at http://www.pilotodyssey.com/PO/index.php
