Your best bet is BMI karts. I ordered everything from them, and if you plan to reuse the stock sprocket and rotor, then you will also need two special hubs(p/n 400243) from them as well. Their prices are good, but the shipping is a bit high, IMHO, but they have everything you need for your yerf axles.

Been looking at BMI,but getting away from yerf dog axle, thinking about maybe a couple inches longer, gonna keep yerf brakes, but having trouble keeping 11 horse in place.

I went with the 54" kart axle for mine. Retaining the Yerf brakes as well. Most people say they are good enough, if the master holds together.

I am probably not looking in the right spot on the BMI site, but where is the 54" axle and why did you go so long, the stock is around 37" I think. 54" seems like it will put the wheels really far out. Can I assume you are adding some structure to the swing arm to help support the axle ends? Are you using the factory wheel hubs on this 54" axle?

Whoops, I got the 45" axle, the width on mine is just under 54". My bad.

Look at my build thread for one way, CKAU's first glimpse thread, about 1/3 the way down the second page for his way(better) and another member posted a pic of his. All in all, you should plan on 5 axle bearings total. The 5th carrier should be in the center of the swing arm. This keeps the axle from flexing in the middle on acceleration and braking.

I chose different wheel hubs than the conventional ones, because I wanted the option of wider rear stance, and being able to adjust if needed.

using a Azusa 42" axle along with 10" wide- 6/4 offset rear wheels will get right at a 54" total rear width. Most all the national and state owned ATV parks have a 54" wide wheelbase restriction for the trails. You may want to consider this while choosing your length.

So it looks like the axles you guys are using do not use the splined ends but rather a cotter key setup like a lawn mower, correct? Do you think that is enough? I guess you do since you are using them. Then I have to find hubs for a cotter key that are 4 x 110 so I can stay with the nice 8" aluminum wheels I already have on the buggy. Maybe it is better for me just to modify the swing arm to accept the Talon axle I already have which is splined and about 6" wider than the Yerf. Since I have to modify anyway. The Talon axle is at least 1/4 larger in diameter also, should hold up well to a mostly stock 150 I guess.

if you've got another brand axle in good shape, that's a good way to go. a number of people have used that method to replace the yerf axles. You may have to move brakes, hub or bearings.

Yes, will have to move the rotor and the sprocket and build some sort of additional support structure out board of the stock Yerf bearing pads. I am kicking myself for selling the Talon swingarm for scrap now...so much easier to graft that onto the Yerf than to make the Talon axle fit the Yerf...DUH!!

ive gone through 3 BD HD axles. bent 2 ,snapped one.
since i've replaced w/ a crossfire axle. have had great luck so far. it's wider than the yerf and stronger and the bearings are the exact same distance as the yerf. the only thing is you have to cut some caliper mount off.

I was going to suggest the same thing. The Dazon I got from Rich has a hammerhead axle installed in it. The bearings, sprocket, and disc lined up the same. Might look into what other buggies might cross over as well.

Also, not to be 'that' guy, but you should start a new thread for this rather than derail billy's.

Trying to get spare parts is some times hard, try to find on craigs list a good used yerf to be a parts buggy. I am always checking for Baja dune 150s for sale.

The big problem with the Yerf's, is most of the parts that break are of inferior quality, and need to be upgraded. I don't I have ever thought that having a parts buggy would be a good idea, yet.

Yeah, it did get a bit off the original but still talking about axles at least.

So a Crossfire axle is nearly a bolt-on for a Spiderbox swinger?

Had a very productive day , just about got all the rear end work done. Got a couple bearings to go plus I don't have any 1 inch axle nuts. But cranked it up and everything stayed put some how.

I wasn't feeling the BMI thin axle nuts, so I outsourced mine from a local bolt and nut place. I know they are 1" by something, but can not remember the thread pitch to save my life, and they were the non nylon locking type. If memory serves, they were a couple bucks each. The socket to fit them cost twice that, lol.

What are your sprockets like??? SIZE...? I think the 11hp should push the spider box around just fine. Are you going to gear it for plenty of torque?? Increase tooth count on axle sprocket and decrease teeth on jack shaft sprocket for more torque. Looks nice.
