does it have a low-oil cutoff switch? if so, oil level may be low causing it to cut off when it loads up in the engine on one side.

First thing karters do when installing new engine, is bypass or remove the oil level sensor. I would start there, and see what happens.

Don't know if it will help, but since those engines were designed for stationary purposes, I would run a bit more oil for peace of mind, last thing you want is to run dry.

Thanks for the help but I have a new problem now...the nut holding the back pulley for the torque converter came off and the belt broke.and the two pulleys are not lining up.

Dont know about this type of cart but maybe when you put the nut back on tight the pulleys will align.
